I don't think people really use the word "slut" in the same sense as "whore" anymore. When people use it they aren't thinking of prostitutes that charge money for sex. It's just a derogatory term for a woman that is too easy. There isn't a common word in English that is used for sexually promiscuous men, but there are far more important things in the world to nag about than that.

The usual explanation for considering some women "sluts" is of course that it's a whole lot easier for women to get a lot of sex than it is for men. That should explain the "bragging" part. Seriously though, why should this be news to anyone by this point? Or do people know this perfectly well but tend to start threads like this just in order to appear more open-minded to others? I can however state with conviction that hardly anyone in 2011 considers men that have had a huge amount of partners somehow admirable. Those type of guys are a regular laughing stock - who the hell has the time to run after women all the time?

So I can't say this would be a very important gender politics issue. I don't have a problem using such language when I am with some of my friends. I've been with "sluts" myself and using that word doesn't differ from describing someone as a "moron", "cold", "calculating" etc. in any way.

I don't agree with calling people names...its not nice. And that includes calling a woman a slut. Good luck to a lady who wants to sleep with lots of blokes. If most of us could sleep with a bigger number of people I'm sure we would....

...the reason women get grief for sleeping around alot, whilst men get a pat on the back, comes down to how easy everyone knows it is for ladies, and how tricky it is for a man.

If a woman wanted a f*ck all she'd have to do is go into a bar or club and ask a man if he wanted simple, no strings attached sex, right now. Hell, even some of the men who weren't single would say yes to that. But if a man did the same thing, how many women would say "Sure, sounds great, lets go for it"...? Not many.

So it comes down to how difficult it is. For a woman to sleep with lots of men? Pretty easy to achieve, so no congratulations there. For a man to sleep with lots of women? Well done my friend, that must have taken quite a bit of effort.

Least that's how I see it!!!

I totally agree with you. I personally do believe in God, but I can't stand "religion". A lot of religious people are highly judgemental & hypocrites in imho. They started a lot of this "slut"

Hey, I'm not trying to get into some sort of debate about the rights and wrongs of someone who might choose to sleep with a stranger from a bar....or whether you personally would pick someone up in a club and what the Org might think of you if you did....that's a whole different kettle of fish and not what the original poster was asking.

The original post asked why are women thought of as "sluts" for sleeping around as opposed to guys who aren't. I merely said because its alot easier for a woman to achieve than a man. The moral issues about someone who MIGHT choose to do it (and I didnt say you, or any of lady on here, would or does, or might consider, etc etc etc) is a debate for another day...
