Indeed, it did have a high "ome willem" gehalte, yet,
[probably for copyright reasons only] there was no

I am so turned off by the so-called Dutch literature. The novels they present are filled with nonsense that is adored by the people I always try hard to evade...

Except Boudewijn Buch, may he rest in peace. That man's writings I love...

I just really don't understand what's supposed to be so
good or cool about people like Zwagerman or Grunberg,
when all they write about is just lame people with lives
that seem totally unreal whom fuck and drink all day and
have artsy friends and visit prostitutes.

zzz

They're so full of clichés. Sure, I've lived with a guy
in Amsterdam for some time [troubled young drunk painter,
with mental problems -walking cliché in itself], and at
times, it was really a bit like those novels, but I just
can't believe that a book about crap like that would be
considered "literatuur".

But hey, in our Dutch "literatuur top 10", the #1 slot is
always held by "Baantjer -De Cock en de Soepstengel" or
something like that. Which goes to show just how sad our
dutch writing is.

There are a few nice ones though. I like Cees Noteboom,
and some of Hella Haase and also a few things by Adriaan
van Dis [although van Dis is the ultimate pretentious
wanker].

Did you ever watch "Zeeman met Boeken"? Urgh. They were a
sad lot. Especially Michiel Zeeman and Bas Heijne. Made me
want to throw the television out of the window, or at least
smash my head through the screen.

I only watched it from time to time becuz I liked Maarten
Doorman ["dichter en denker" yuck] cuz he's so rugged
