I never turn these videos off early. They are a harsh reminder of whats going on in the world and the history of human fear/prejudice/ignorance etc.

A lot of people don't watch them because it makes them sad/unhappy etc and they get mad

when someone posts it and makes them face something that isn't "nice." Not everything that

needs to be done is going to be nice or make us happy. These remind us of what we ignore on a

day to day basis, namely, our own privileges.

What are you telling me to "shut the fuck up" for?

Firstly, this thread doesn't "proves that there are still gay people being humiliated/tortured and-or killed". It proves nothing apart from a man was tortured to death.

I agree with you that nobody should forget that people are tortured and killed for their sexuality. My thoughts on this are not in doubt. But before you swear at me again, go back and read my post PROPERLY. You'll see that I was objecting to the video being posted and specifically POSTED WITHOUT COMMENT. This isn't political or making a statement unless a point in being made. And it wasn't. Without the point it could easily be construed as sick voyeurism.

And before you have a further go or others like Kooleaze "co-sign" you for shitting on my post again, let me put this is context.

I'm objecting to this because nothing is clearly stated and the original poster has only now amended the video to provide some sort of explanation or reason for posting something so horrible.

ed unconAnd If you think I don't "get it", I'm a gay man who once was beaten within an inch of his life by six men and hurlscious in front of a passing train. I'm lucky to be alive.

Thank you Pr1ncequik for amending the original post.

Thank you for sharing this. I don't think that everyone understands just how much some people really do get it. You don't need to go to a third world country to be in unsafe territory if your a gay man. It happens everywhere. One of the things I hate about people thinking of all the terrible things happening in the Middle East and in Africa is that these highlights make it seem as if we Americans and Westerners are so much more evolved and humane than the rest of the world, and that is absolutely not the case.

I am pretty sure if "God" couldn't be used as an excuse they would find another excuse to justify this madness.

I am beginning to really fear that people in general NEED something to hate and look down on to feel better about their own miserable lives.

Not all of us kill, but many of us taunt, belittle, bully, and go to extremes to make someone feel bad who is NOT like ourselves.

Before it was skin color... now its sexuality... what's next? If you are a fat kid will you be butchered?

If you are too pretty? Too ugly? Too tall/short/thin/rich or poor?

Can you love something foreign to you? If something is different from what you know or been taught, can you allow it to exist without trying to harm it?

History tells us no... because for a long time now, anything different was always feared and killed off.

Too few of us put ourselves in the line of fire to help those different from us all the time. We stay quiet and let shit happen around us. cry

At some point, you have to draw the line. There are countless videos like this and countless other kinds of videos (like the It Gets Better video posted by the teen who just asphyxiated himself a week or so ago).

It's not about turning a blind eye. It's about the fact that inundating yourself with these images DOES NOT provide more or better understanding. It provides even more fear.

do we really want this thread to be jacked??

no seriously, there's no actual information on the link. And normally in South Africa they mob execute people they consider criminals like murderers and such. Is there anything in the video (I just can't watch it all the way through! But I saw the beginning and end) or any related article type about the context of this torture/execution? I'm not falling to mob mentality myself and trusting a 4th party headline in a thread or posted video. I just want to know if there is any legitimate context to this.

I agree with this post. there is no evidence that the man was being tortured for being homosexual. they burn people alive in some parts of Africa for something as little as stealing Potatoes.

'This takes place in Lagos, Nigeria. It's a busy market, and he stole a necklace off of a woman's neck. This is a very common phenomenon in some Nigerian markets. Some women don't even wear jewels when they go to the market for this very reason. Back to my story. This young man snatched a necklace from a woman's neck, and although he tried to run away, he got caught. By touts. The uneducated uncultured folk that have nothing to do with their lives except gallivant the streets. In case you're wondering how I know all this, it's because I'm Nigerian.
