The St. Louis Cardinals win their 11th World Series title in MLB history, trailing only the New York Yankees. Congratulations to the Cardinals.

As a wild card team, the Cardinals should never have had home field advantage.

The rainout of game six helped them too, allowing ace Chris Carpenter to pitch again in game seven.

Having said all that, they were clearly the better team. The Rangers' bullpen in the last two games lost the series. I believe the Rangers' pitching staff as a whole issued the most walks ever in a world series. disbelief

Congratulations St. Louis!! They definitely deserved it. When the Ranger lost Game 6, I knew it was over for them, just like it was for the Giants back in 2002.

Nelson Cruz has to be kicking himself, if he had hustled just a little harder to the wall Texas wins the series in Game 6.

Albert stays with the Cardinals.

Theo makes a big splash by signing Fielder.

It never fails, teams that cough up Game 6 usually lose Game 7.

Angels in 1986 ALCS, Red Sox in 1986 WS, Giants in 1987 NLCS, Cardinals in 1987 WS, Pirates in 1991 NLCS, Braves in 1991 WS, Cardinals in 1996 NLCS, Yankees in 2001 WS, Cubs in 2003 NLCS, Yankees in 2004 ALCS, Astros in 2004 NLCS, Indians in 2007 ALCS, etc etc

I think it's asinine the team with the best record doesn't have home field advantage. Bud Selig is a fucking joke.

Still, Texas had their chance, but blew it in Game 6.

Do you think the selections, seeding, and regional assignments for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament should also be based on teams with the best record?

What does that have to do with major league baseball?

Using the All-Star Game(which is nothing but a glorified exhibition game) to determine something as crucial as home-field is plain stupid. Reward the team with the most regular-season wins. The current system makes no sense.

Almost akin to Roger Goodell scheduling the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl.

True nod , but if they didn't do something drastic to get players to show up for these glorified exhibition games, no one would show up. As it is, players try to get out of the Pro Bowl by feigning some minor or imagined injury (broken fingernail, brusied ego, hurt feelings), and granted, some of the players selected to the Pro Bowl who either lost the conference championship games the week before or have been out of contention since week 5 of the regular season usually have to be goaded into playing, even if it's being held in Hawaii and have all expenses paid for their families as well as themselves, but they are being rewarded for being the best players in the league that season, and the fans deserve to see them one more time, even if they don't want to risk serious injury.

Yes, I think it's stupid that the All-Star game determines home field advantage for the World Series, but Bud Selig brought that upon himself for allowing a tie game to stand in the All Star Game just prior to the institution of that rule just because each side ran out of players. He should have done something more significant to improve the All Star Game instead of putting the balance of the World Series in jeopardy.

I'm not surprised, there had been to whispers he was hanging up the cleats. Now that I'm over my shock of the Card's winning again. Congrats to Mr. LaRussa and his team.

What a way to exit. cool

Well, now that Tony LaRussa has retired, the Cardinals have an opening for a new manager. Of course, they could go after a couple of managers who have previously won a World Series, like former Red Sox manager Terry Francona or former Arizona Diamondbacks manager (and current Chicago Cubs TV color commentator) Bob Brenly.

But then again, Bob Brenly could be off the market for them, as the Cubs fired manager Mike Quade today. Granted, his record warranted it, but the team needs a thorough cleaning of the whole roster, as they need to unload a lot of wasted cash in the contracts for Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Zambrano. Problem is, they still have a lot of huge cash guaranteed on their contracts, and there are few takers for their services. Soriano is in the twilight of his career, and the Yankees had shown some interest in Zambrano during the pennant race last season until he bailed on the Cubs after a shockingly bad loss, which led the Cubs to suspend him for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Frank McCourt's bankruptcy proceedings will allow him to sell the Los Angeles Dodgers, and right now there are a couple of groups willing to buy. First, there is Mark Cuban, who offered to buy the team over a year ago but balked at the $1 billion dollar asking price McCourt offered, and then there is a group led by former Dodgers Steve Garvey and Orel Hershiser.

I wouldn't touch the Cubs job with a ten foot pole; that organization is player killer, manager killer everyone of any worth have been chewed up and spit out. People spoke of how the Boston team unprofessionalism.... a lot of players on the Cubs would give the Reds a run for the money and that shit didn't just start this year either. Everyone speaks of Zambrano "attitude" but he should thank his lucky stars they are kicking him to the curb. I'm convinced if he gets on a better team ( a winner) the talent that all know he has will comeback.
