'Moneyball' I generally hate scripted shit and I don't give a rat's ass about sports. That said:

This is a really good movie. I highly recommend it.

That's two thumbs-up, ColAngus!

I've heard nothing but good things about this film. And I do love baseball. The Oakland A's were a hot team around the time the movie takes place.

Then do yourself a favour and go see it. You'll love it!
I used to be really into baseball, but I lost all interest in sports in the mid-'90s.

In a just world, it'd win at least Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) and Best Editing.

I already plan to see it next month when I have the budget to see some movies. What made you decide to see it?

That is a great question, sex.
I took my parents to see it. I thought there might be some common ground for me and my father re: the business aspect. I was hoping it would make an impression on him in terms of 'thinking different'. And the fact that it was based on actual events appealed to me.
So glad I saw it. | |

I liked it. I wasn't expecting much but it was good.

I need to go to sleep. Before reading the rest of your reply, I'd taken this to mean that sex was your motivation for watching the film. I assumed you took a date in hopes of getting laid or something afterward. I'm glad you had nobler intentions.
As you know, your word holds a lot of clout with me. Baseball and Brad Pitt annoy me to no end, but I'll need to check this film out, on your recommendation. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

A lot of people say this about Brad Pitt, but I think many of his films from the last few years have been very enjoyable if not outright excellent:
The Tree of Life Inglourious Basterds The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Babel
It would be a shame if Brad Pitt is keeping you from seeing these gems.

I thought Brad Pitt should have been completely edited out of Inglourious Basterds. He was awful!! But I do have to admit he's turned out some pretty decent performances in other titles I've seen with him. There's just something about him, though, that sets me against him right off the bat. I know I need to get over that. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Funnily enough I share your view on Brad Pitt, but indeed, even though I do not think the world of him, in movies like Babel he is exactly what he needs to be (an actor). I love that movie. Even Pitt. >>

Ditto, man. Ditto. | |

I'm sure some of you guys remember "AzureStar"? She also told me Pitt annoys her. Interesting...
P.S. Did anybody see the Moneyball parody on SNL?

i so much enjoyed this film and as a baseball lover, i don't go 2 see every baseball movie based upon the respect of the game. this movie really pulls u into the front office of teams and how some deals are made and decisions a baseball fan doesn't get to see.
and it's also a family film with billy beane's relationship with his daughter. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

They did a great job of putting the movie together and making it interesting, but I personally can't bring myself to see it because the premise is 100% false.
First of all, those Oakland moneyball teams never won a single postseason game beyond the first round. It's not that difficult to make the playoffs when your team is in the weakest and smallest division in baseball. The storyline would hold weight if the Athletics had actually won something other than division championships and a wildcard.
Secondly, the success of those Oakland teams had a lot more to do with steroids and fantastic starting pitching than it did the moneyball philosophy.
The 2008-2011 Tampa Bay Rays are far more deserving of a movie than the 2000-2006 Athletics.

i miss Howard every day . Not sure if I can handle this 3 day a week thing ...
I think Fred should do the show on the off days or something else ... or fa fa ho hyde ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

The selfish side of me wants Howard on at least 5 days/wk. But the empathetic side of me says, 'Let the man have some more R&R; he has a hard enough time relaxing.'
As "819" cleverly framed it, rotating 4-day and 3-day weeks is certainly better than 0-day weeks.
And as much as I like Fred and Fla-fla Flo-hi, I don't know how much I'd be into that (I usually give the Wrap Up Show the skip). Might've been nice to have Carolla on 101, but he says it's never gonna happen.
I say they give Artie a show on Howard's days off! I've tried listening to Nick & Artie, but there are two problems for me with that show: 1) I hate sports; 2) I hate Nick.

Is this a total guys movie?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No.
In a nutshell, it's a true-life underdog story that's about bucking the odds by learning to "think different".

does artie's show still run ? i kinda thought he was brought in to eventually sub for howie on some of the off days etc ....
then i heard Jay Thomas and kinda thought he might be a good fit too ....
then i heard bubba .... (never got into either of those above ) ....
When I see your avatar , Ace, i am reminded of that series ... what was that ... "murder one" ... that he was in .... is that photo from that series ???

Artie's show?
Jay, like Howard, does point out a lot of the pretension and hypocrisy in the world, but I find his tone too consistently angry. Usually, I just don't enjoy listening to him.
I can't stand Bubba. Glad he's gone.
Yes, he was in Murder One. But that pic's from Road to Perdition.

i meant "NICK AND ARTIE" .... havnt heard howie talk about artie lately so I wasnt sure if that is still a daily show or how they are doing it ....
I admit it ... i keep thinking artie is gone .... that was totally crazy what he did and .... seeing his downward slide was kinda too depressing... I remember seeing him on the "donny deutsh show one night and I didnt recognize the guy ...
I didnt see "road to perdition" so ... was not sure . Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.
