After they fight, it's nothin left for either of them to do.
They'd both have to retire, why not keep fighting a couple more fighters, than those two sqaure off?
If they fought a few years ago, now what/ is Manny and Floyd supposed to keep fighting, they already fought the best. You go from fighting the best to the fourth best? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Ortiz didn't protest what happen, I wonder why? He knew he made a mistake not putting his hands up both times Floyd nailed him, why he turned and looked at Joe Cortez after Floyd landed the first punch puzzles me.
Bob Arum, Manny's promoter, is the reason why Floyd and Manny haven't fought yet, neither fighter is scared of the other. [Edited 9/18/11 18:18pm]

Okay call me crazy but I think the whole thing was staged....the headbutt happens to signal that it's time to end the fight. The Judas-like kiss by Ortiz to Mayweather is another signal, then a few seconds later the ref conveniently looks away and Ortiz has a face full of canvas in like two seconds. Am I the only one who noticed that Ortiz sure was smiling from ear to ear having just lost and been knocked on his keister like 5 minutes earlier? Boxing is entertainment indeed.... Nice theory, and sure - its possible, but I don't go for conspiracy theories. Fights at that level are all that's keeping boxing alive and they're so incredibly regulated. Plus, I don't believe a champ would ever want to go out like that. He just wasn't as prepared as he should have been from the word go, it caught up with hime and Mayweather took advantage of an opening. However, Ortiz did make $2.5 milliong for three and half rounds of work, sustained no serious injuries and there will likely be a rematch. Not to mention the weird circumstances that ended the fight and continued afterwards. I'm not sure what smiling you're talking about exactly, but he was definitely smiling/laughing at that crazy Mayweather/Merchant interview.

Him smiling was more of him being in shock than anything else.
Why would Ortiz, an up and coming boxer let Mayweather win? You know what that would do for him if he's the guy that get's that first vicroty from Floyd Mayweather, do you know? It would do way more than him throwing the fight. He would be the king of the world if he beat Mayweather last night. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I agree about being in shock. But the time I saw him smiling the most was after the interview when Merchant said he wished he was 50 years younger so he could kick Mayweather's ass.
First guy to beat Mayweather and he would have made even more money.

I haven't watched boxing since (IMO) Meldrick Taylor was robbed about 20 years ago, but I think you're right. They call it a fight for a reason.
I still don't understand why folks pay to see Mayweather fight. As long as he's ducking Pacquiao, he's just spinning his wheels. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I'll say it again, it's Manny's promoter that's held this fight up, not Floyd or Manny.
Meldrick Taylor faught stupid against Chavez in that fight, he had a clear speed advantage but he choose to fight in the pocket with one of the most deadly body punchers in the history of boxing, that body beating wore him down and it's why he was pissin' blood for weeks after that fight. Meldrick let his Philly pride overtake his brian, I'm gulity of this sometimes myself BTW
Richard Steele was obviously on Chavez promoter Don King's payroll and he was wrong in ending the fight when he did but I blame Taylor for allowing himself to be put in that situation by not using his brain in the ring

I guess after Hagler and Taylor were robbed I haven't paid enough attention to the fight game to know the details of the Manny-Mayweather soap opera.
You make good points on Taylor but his stupidity doesn't excuse the fraud I felt was commiitted to preserve Chavez's record. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I actually ordered the fight. And the ending was in deed bull shit. Ortiz hands were down and obviously wasnt ready to begin fighting again after they supposenly gave their apologies. Mayweather was definately a pussy for sneaking Ortiz. REMATCH! def "Don't make me chase u, even doves have pride.."

Its my understanding that you could hear the ref tell them to fight. If that's true its the only thing that matters. Ortiz should have had his hands up.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Why were his hands down, how many times does one need to aplogize for a headbutt (which people seem to forget.) On the replay, you can here the ref say time in or whatever. PRINCE: Always and Forever

You can debate it all you want, and whether or not Ortiz is an idiot all you want...but the fact is that Mayweather won via a suckerpunch. Plain and simple. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Whether he said fight or not, Ortiz was giving him he's appologies and respects. And Mayweather KNEW what he was doing when he hit him while his hands were down. Giving him NO respect in return. So it was def a payback/cheap shot. He knocked out an unarmed man.
I didnt really care who won, I just wanted see a FIGHT. That I paid for, and woulda liked it to go some distance. Mayweather probably woulda won anyway but... "Don't make me chase u, even doves have pride.."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Its a BOXING MATCH you guys. What does respect have to do with it? You entire goal is to knock your opponent out so that you don't have to worry about a subjective decision from ringside.
And yeah, it was "time in" that the ref said. Boxers are trained to be machines. Time in means, PUNCH! Plain and simple.
Also, as other keep pointing out, why is it that his headbutt isn't dirty? And why is it that nobody questions his continued weird behavior of apologizing and trying to make out with dude. Its a FIGHT! Mayweather did what he was supposed to do.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Preach, people are acting likt the headbutt didn't even happen. And this was coming from a guy who's trainers said watch Mayweather cause he's "dirty." If you watch the match, Ortiz had his head in Floyds face a few times brushing up against it.
People are talking about sneaking, hoe can you sneak someone if they are looking dead at you? After they emrace (for a 4th time, all in favor of Ortiz) Floyd give him a left hook. Aftet the hook he still doesn't put his guard up, instead he looks at the ref for him to try to do something. If you have enough time to look at the ef, you have enough time to put your hands up. He doesn't so Floyd does what he's supposed to do, punch him again. PRINCE: Always and Forever
