I mean, Middle Eastern is a term more commonly used to refer to Arabs/Semites. Egypt is African but Egyptians are really mixed. A lot of Egyptians I know don't like to consider themselves Arabs whatsoever, including my father. They argue that they are 'Egyptian' not 'Arab.' I think we're Arab but I think that we are a lot of things, really. Not just Arab. Egyptians have a very unique culture. I mean, there are black Egyptians, white Egyptians, everything in between.

However, I don't think Armenians are middle eastern. They're more like indo-European.

You don't think Armenian is middle eastern? It's right on top of Iran and on the western end of Turkey. I would say Armenian is about as western as Middle Eastern nations could be, but I would lump it in with them as well. I could be way off!

shrug I guess it's in between. Armenia has been invaded by everybody..

"Opinions vary as to what countries make up the modern definition of Asia and the Middle East. Historically, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been long associated with the Middle East, but in recent years, some sources now consider them to be more closely aligned with Europe based on their modern economic and political trends."

So my people are "Middle Eastern" in the USA? lol

That´s only partly true...a lot of Turks of today have grandparents from southeast Europe, many have ancestors from the Caucasus/Caucas region, some have Greek ancestors, some even have African roots, and yes, some have Arab lineage (particularly those from the Hatay region/Antiochia), some are mixed with the Kurds (politicians like Turgut Özal, Ismet Inönü and Ecevit had Kurdish ancestors), then there are also many who have Armenian lineage and vice versa. I think Turkey and the USA have the racially most diverse population.

What exactly do you find sexy about Turkish men? lol

Being a straight Turkish male, I´m very curious why you find them sexy.

I used to be interested, but a couple of articles have really put me off. I mean, I've been to the airport, but haven't been there properly.

Sounds like it's going tits up anyway. Not a minute too soon some would say. It always seemed impossible that the growth could be sustained.

I read that article that you posted a couple of weeks ago and I totally agree with you. Things are not so pretty under the surface and they HAVE to find ways in the Middle East to adress those issues, or else things will really go tits up. And not just in Dubai.

I was thinking about it and I could see parallels with the illegal Burmese workers here and the whole hi-so/lo-so class system and attitudes here in Thailand, but ultimately I concluded it's not quite the same as what I read about Dubai. It's just so disgusting and sinister and, frankly, plain evil, and entirely by design, and of course the flashy facade and ostentatious displays of wealth only add to that sour taste in the mouth. It's hard not to root for the whole place to fail, if only it wouldn't hurt the underclass (basically slaves) even more. You're right too, it's not just Dubai.

I'm from Cyprus and I consider myself Middle Eastern. I consider Turkey Middle East as well. In its classic definition Middle East included the aformentioned countries, but today westerners usually refer to Middle East when discussing Arabic people
