Damn, the Chinese don't fuck around.

Why I don't get is why profiessional sports no longer have a sense of honour. It's all about winning now. It's like we expect our bikers to juice up, our football players to do some silly ass thing, etc.
Behaving like kids should be shameful.

Particularly in basketball it seems. Not that the players are bigger egomaniacs, but their personalities come through more than in, say, football or baseball or soccer.
Same with tennis, but tennis does seem to value some sense of maturity (notable exceptions like McEnroe aside) and professionalism.
But yeah I can barely watch basketball anymore. I feel like the game has been lost in the spectacle. My Legacy

Oh dude, bascketball has NOTHING on Hockey.
The hockey players act like a bunch of morons.
We used to go to hockey games betting when fights were going to breakout.

This was obviously provoked by the Americans though. The dumbass American thought he could kick a Chinese guy while he was down without ramification. Looks like he got his ass whooped for it.

I don't understand the problem with someone showing their personality. Do you care to elaborate. BTW - I still enjoy basketball. We have the Nets in Newark, NJ for one more year...I'll be going to as many games as I can before they move to Brooklyn.

I missed the kick. I saw what looked to me to be a very clear trip as the American player ran for the ball and tries to hurdle a Chinese player that rolled on the floor below him. It gets harder to tell what happens after that, but from you I can make of it, the American guy gets the ball, lobs it downcourt and is fouled, or at least feels he is fouled, by a Chinese player, so he rips his own arm away aggressively. Their arms were perhaps tangled up and the Chinese player takes offense to this, swings and his buddy comes up from the side and punches the guy who then stumbles.

I read on ESPN the China National Team shot 57 free throes to Georgetowns 15 or something like. that. PRINCE: Always and Forever

It doesn't matter who started it. There are officials there whose job it is to figure that out. Even after there is a fight starting on the floor that's as far as it should have gone. There is no excuse for any of those guys to come running in from the bench. And any bitch ass who so much as picked up a chair (let alone threw one), be they player or fan, should be criminally prosecuted. Its fucking basketball, not pro wrestling.

And that means what? Were the officials local? Were both teams playing the same type of ball (outside game vs inside game)?

It means the OP has a history....a long history of racebaiting here.

Oh... well.... if its gonna be that kinda party I'm gonna stick my dick in the mashed potatoes.

I was reading up on it from a baskletball forum.
The Chinese National Team shot 57 fhree throws to Georgetowns 30. The game was tied at 64 when this broke out with 9 minutes left in the 4th. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I'm still at a loss in regards to what this has to do with a fight between two players, then a brawl between two teams breaking out. I don't even understand how it relates to motive. Free throw disparity is nothing new for basketball players. I'm not trying to be difficult, either, I just don't get it.

I didn't see the game but I bet that had something to do with the brawl. When it's that big of a free throw distance in the close games, tings are bound to get chippy.
If I remember correctly, the brawl with the Pistons-Paces there was a big free throw disparity. PRINCE: Always and Forever

There is nothing wrong with it, if you like their personalities.
I am a fan of sports, but not really a fan of sports personalities, sports interviews, etc. It's like actors discussing politics or musicians discussing religion. It's not what they are best at.
So I find that even though football players might be egomaniacs, too, I can detach and watch the game easier than with basketball.
Just my feeling, I am not saying athletes should not have personalities or they should not do interviews, I just don't want to watch that personally. My Legacy

yeah, fights are part of the game. They are allowed by the refs. It's ridiculous IMO, but I think the fans must like it. My Legacy

Well, you're in luck then. You can avoid that which you don't like and focus on the game. I haven't seen an interview break out in the middle of a basketball game yet

Come on, was I the only one rooting for the Americans to whoop the Chinese team? Seems like the whole debacle was really unnecessary but (hate to say it) entertaining a bit Trolls be gone!

Its that clear cut to me, end of story.
I really don't give a damn at this point who started it; players, coaches, and/or spectators aren't suppose leave their respective seats. The players who were involved in this brawl (from both teams) should ride the bench for a year. I' would go so far as to recommend most of the players be kicked off their respective teams. If their parents had any sense they'd yank them... old school. I doubt that would every happened because that's the world we live in today, clueless adults produce clueless children.

the article i read said the referee wasn't calling fouls against the chinese, mostly just on americans, and the fact that many black players were on the american team was disturbing to some people in china and that china has a reputation for doing this kind of brawling anyway. see if i can find the link.... brb

cite: Reactions to the melee in the Chinese blogosphere have been divided between embarrassment and pride. To many Chinese, the incident mars the atmosphere of hospitality that Beijing has been trying to project while Biden is in town. “It’s a major loss of face,” wrote Chinese newspaper editor Zhao Shilong on his microblogging Weibo account. Other bloggers called the Chinese players thugs and hooligans. “Their technique is poor, and their character is poorer!” wrote a user at the Tiexue web portal. Yet some netizens praised the players’ aggressiveness as bravery—often with a whiff of racism. “When…they strike with their black hands, they should be attacked. Don’t they care that Biden is visiting China?” wrote user Duan Duan Cheng on Weibo. Another user posted, “It doesn’t matter that those black people are big and fierce, when it comes to fighting we can kick the shit out of them.” A third blogger over at the Tiexue web portal wrote, “Don’t people fight in the NBA as well?” and called the Georgetown players “foolish [expletive] black people.” [Edited 8/19/11 16:57pm]
