Now, on to dresses
Here's a raspberry and charcoal DVF dress that I think is perfect and I haven't worn yet. I know it looks really plain here but I like that it's wool, the graphic's cool, and I fill it out well. I may raise the hem tho
[img:$uid]http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy360/cynda319/DSCN0564.jpg[/img:$uid]
I have this one already that I haven't worn the color is perfect for the theme
Here are other versions in the same color

If you didn't go for the color blocked DVF, I think the extra 'kick' in the pink color of this one would look INSANE against your skin. I also like the neckline because something about it is giving me , "yeah, that's right, I'm 40, grown, and sexy tonight up in this lounge, Beeeches! :wave2: "
this dress feels more celebratory and 'bring-on-the-night-ish' , while it's very complimentary to the bosom area, it stops at an age appropriate place at the knee so you don't give away too much sexy. More than anything, I'm mainly sold on the color, if it is in fact true to the photo and really that rich. It's also striking a chord with me because I've been fiending hardcore after Viola Davis' wardrobe choices lately. She has been kickin ass 24/7 in all of her press for her new movie, and homegirl is just rocking color like they just create sh** just for her to look good in it! I saw a pic of her in a similar color a few and she was just di.vine. Maybe try this one on, and if it doesn't please you, then send that heffa back to the store.

Bring it den Auntie Ottie!
Okay, all three of the non-DVF dresses are the same color and are all Lauren. I LOVE Lauren dresses. And yes it's that rich in person and looks great on my skin. I have 5-6 dresses in the same style you selected in different colors and prints so I know it fits great. The first one, which I have already, is basically the same dress but with cap sleeves.
Did you see Viola's Essence this month??? She looked BEAUTIFUL!!! And she's deep! Bensimon did the shoot.
“As Black women, we’re always given these seemingly devastating experiences -- experiences that could absolutely break us. But what the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls the butterfly. What we do as Black women is take the worst situations and create from that point…” –Viola Davis, ESSENCE
Award-winning actress Viola Davis is having the time of her life as one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. Despite her evident radiance and mind-blowing talent, she has had to come to grips with a culture that seldom makes dark-skinned women feel like “the chosen ones.” However, during her recent successes, including her Oscar-nominated performance in the film "Doubt," she feels more like a “princess” now than ever before. As she anticipates the release of her new movie, "The Help," Davis shares her story of growth and acceptance with writer Lola Ogunnaike in the August issue of ESSENCE. I'ma classy ho! So all that's for the after party.
Depending on the dress I choose, I MAY wear these boots with it
These go best with the color blocked dress (#1), and that softer pink one with the draped neckline (#4?)
Yep! I may do another event on Friday, like a happy hour, and do the DVF with the boots. |

Wait, I didn't see this dress. Where? I wonder if it's in one of those spaces that show up blank on my computer, I hate that. Anyway, I think I like this the best though it isn't showing any cleavage. Those boot actually say it all, though. Not sure if the work with this but I still like this. |

If its at a snooty joint I would go with option 8.
If its a boat party/more casual party go with option 2.
More dinner party atmosphere... 2... but ONLY if its a real ribbon on that sucker.
It's not a real ribbong just kinda 3d
I'm doing it at my house cuz my friend been asking for years when I'ma do something other than a bbq or superbowl party at the crib. Fuckers! Since I'm doing my 40th in Vegas this year seems like a good way to kick it off.
The only thing is that my decor is all earth tones and I don't know how that pink/black gonna work against a bunch of gold and green. Whatchu think?
I'm a roll that rug up and move the couches around so that'll be the dance area opening into the kitchen. And i'm going to move the side chairs out.

Fair enough. I think that's class as is. I only wear a silver falling star, and pink pearl earrings.
Stacy London say no mini skirts after 35. In some cases, I agree, but in others..nah. Hell with that!
True dat. But...I always think it's sexier when a lady either serves up either breast-es-es or legs, and not both at the same time. It leaves a little to the imagination and teases with the sexiality a bit more For example, if SCDLS goes with the color blocked DVF shift dress, because it has such a conservative neckline, I'd be trying shorten that mug to get the legs on display, big time
That's my plan. After I bought that dress I saw Amanda the receptionist on Ugly Betty rocking it. They shortened the hemline drastically and gave her a very Mod look. I wouldn't go as short as they did just maybe take off 3-4 inches to bring it right above my knee. [Edited 8/17/11 20:19pm] |

I seriously keep looking at all the dresses and think... they all look right...
I now like the cowl neck AND the wrapped plunge neckline dress... I don't know... heck what shoes are you gonna wear?
would the purple stappy joints work with the wrap dress? |

I have that cowl neck dress in a pretty shade of purple. I briefly toyed with wearing purple to the party to be in a different, yet complementary color. I'm partial to this one for all the dresses except the DVF dress which I'd definitely wear the boots with.
