TRANSFORMERS! Robots in disguiiiiiiise...
Okay, so who saw the new Transformers movie? I thought the dialog was abysmal as usual although there were some funny moments. Special effects were superb of course, but the product placement was only slightly less obvious.
The acting was so-so but I thought the plot was a little better than the previous 2 movies. Who was the bony chick with the poofed up lips?
Sentinel Prime...Nooooo!
I wasn't expecting much, but it was still fun...Optimus Prime was badass! Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

This one was soooooo much better than the first two. Usually the third movie in a trilogy spells doom, but for this franchise, it was actually the best one!! It didn't feel like 2.5 hours at all! It just whizzed on by.
It also had a lot of actors I didn't even know were going to be in this. Ken Jeong, Lester Speight, Leonard Nimoy (Sentinel Prime), John Malkovich, and Patrick Dempsey. I'll admit, I never followed the production from start to finish like a TF fanboy, so these castings may not be a surprise to some people. *shrug* The Malkovich and Jeong characters were HILARIOUS!!!
Michael Bay said this was his last Transformers, didn't he? I can't really see where else he can go with it. I mean, I'm sure they can think of something, but why bother if it's gonna end it on a crappy note? [Edited 7/4/11 22:13pm]

the day this movie came out the local newspapers DOGGED IT zero and one star respectively so i was worried about it, not that i care what critics say but what has concerned me about the films has been the lack of transformers in the films and more about shia's love life in the films or the military being involved.
but it's a popcorn flick not citizen kane so let's just go there. i did enjoy this film better than part two and i felt it focused more on the transformers this time around.
the only way i can see this going any further is to go backwards and perhaps have the movies focus on cybertron, otherwise it's good 2 end it here. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I never go 2 the theatre but it sounds like I might need 2 4 this one.

I enjoyed it. | |

I thought this was the best of the trilogy too. I'm embarassed for not recognizing Leonard Nimoy's voice since I'm a die hard Trekkie,
It's always more fun for me when I see these flicks with my sons or some other geeks of the sci-fi/fantasy/superhero genres. We always sit around afterward and yap long after the movie is over.
Jeong was the funniest...that scene in the men's room had me on the floor!
I agree it's time for Bay to move on but Spielberg may have some fresh ideas in mind...I hope so. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I basically went with lowered expectations and it ended up being a fun popcorn flick, as you put it.
Good point about Cybertron. If I recall correctly, the cartoon had several stories focused there. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Trust me bro...ya gotta see these kinds of flicks at the theatre, preferably on opening weekend to get the total experience. I went to all the Star Trek and Star Wars movies on opening day when everybody shows up dressed for the occasion, good fun!
I don't really frequent the theatre for any other kinds of movies. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

It just came out and it already made $400 million???? I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

It's pathetic, but I get peeved when they don't play the theme music from the TV series...I'm not completely satisfied till I hear the music. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS (though I think if you're in this thread, you should know this by now):
Lol! I think Jeong's funniest scene was when he was in the office being confronted by Laserbeak, and he tried to turn "gangsta". That was some funny shit!
Nimoy's Sentinel Prime reminded me of Galvatron from the 1986 movie, so that's what tipped me off that it was him. It's too bad Chris Latta died a few years ago because I would have LOVED to heard him voice Starscream for all three of these movies. One of the best animated voice adaptations (also includes Cobra Commander, which is the same exact voice) of all time!!
I keep reading where people (and of course PROFESSIONAL critics) were disappointed with the film. Not me. I guess, like you, I went in with almost no expectations and was looking to just have fun with it. I wasn't personally going over it in my mind with a fine-tooth comb to see if it was exactly like a story from the comics or whatever. And even if I had, I probably still would've enjoyed it.
I'm surprised at some of the deaths, too. I know they've "killed" Megs before too, so it's not impossible for him to be resurrected, but he was thoroughly trounced this time, so we'll see. At least they really lay waste to some humans in this one. Completely unapologetically too! Do you really think they're going to continue the franchise without Bay? Or even do the popular thing in Hollywood these day and reboot it??

LOL! My son reminded me that Nimoy did Galvatron...I agree about Starscream though.
They just blew the humans to dust and bones...poof! The destroyed cityscape was very realistic too.
I doubt this will end with Bay gone...the Batman films with the last director were better than the first ones IMO. And look how many directors Star Trek has been through.
Besides, there's still a lot of ground to cover on Cybertron. Optimus was supposed to be the last of the Primes before this movie but since they introduced Sentinel we might get the whole story of the Prime dynasty,

Understood but go see this on the big screen. I opted for 2D rather than 3D. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Michael Bay works for a reason. He's reliable. I wouldn't be as interested in a Transformer movie without him. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

i saw it yesterday. awful movie, so long and got really boring that i started falling asleep. 3D on it ain't all that too, only the first scene is good 3d quality.
too much action, i feel as though i lost some brain cells after watching it. 3/10

Hmm. Did you like any of the other ones in the trilogy?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The small screen doesn't do justice for movies like these so people show up at the theatre in droves. A crappy bootleg just won't do. Besides that, the stories/characters already have a large, sometimes multi-generational following.
This franchise almost lost me with the first two films but after this one I think Imma hang for a minute. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Which means we're probably looking at a reboot! I can't stand when they do that. I say, just continue the story. Yeah, it'll probably look a little different and some of the style would be different under a new director, but there'd be no need to re-invent the franchise just because the director no longer wants to be attached. Look at the X-Men trilogy. Even though the third one SUCKED, it was still a continuation. I also think Shia said this was his last one too, so who knows.
So, I hope you're right, Babynoz. I hope they do continue, though putting it on Cybertron would eliminate a lot of human interaction, which might be best anyway!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I hope they won't tinker with the original Transformers concept too much because they really don't have to.
Shia said he won't return? I don't believe him, but I think the humans are pretty interchangable at any rate...the robots are moreso the stars of the movie, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I thought the first one was alright...the 2nd was horrible.
I didn't see the first 2 at the cinema. With this one being "3D" plus the fact I had 2 of my little cousins with me, I decided to go and take my chance on this one. Big mistake.

They actually re-used the car element in that second comparison? Just sampled the previous movie by Bay? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Well, that's certainly what it looks like...but who cares really?

It just kind of destroys the idea of the movie's unique "reality" for me if I think of it like an assembly line with interchangable parts between movies! Movie's unique reality = suspension of disbelief = fun for me... therefore the fun is a bit destroyed.
I thought I was getting a thousand dollar custom suit for my money... but I find a tiny "made in India" mass produced tag. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
