Jealousy

In a relationship.

Have you ever experienced jealousy while being with someone?

Have you ever been jealous?

Are there any positives to being jealous?

Does jealousy make you weak or strong?

The only thing that would make me truly jealous I think would be if my partner were sharing intimacy (not talking sex, private jokes, pet names, quiet times etc is what I consider true "intimacy") with another.

I've heard that there is "good " jealousy.

When you have the other person's best interest at heart.

just wondering if there's any truth or experience behind this theory.

Ive been a lil jealous a couple of times, nothing major or stalkerish. Plus I was very open bout it. I was like "you know that kinda makes me jealous." He was cool about it.

Jealousy is just a sign of insecurity within yourself. I used to be like that till I realized how awesome I am. I even heard the same thing in psychology classes, so it just confirmed what I thought about it.

No, I've actually been accused of being too indifferent as far as relationships go.

Here's the thing though..

I'm dating a guy who gets a rise out of my response to him looking at/ commenting, on other people .

He says things just to get a response.

I know this, because he half heartedly admitted it.

We both laughed it off.

So ,in the past couple of days I've tried to ignore this.

What's that all about?

I've been jealous before. But I felt like it was with the right intent.

I think that some jealousy is normal in a relationship.

As long as it doesn't get out-of-hand or lead to irrational/unfounded/dangerous actions & consequences.

But seriously...you're walking down the street and some dude/lady eyes your partner up & down...you're not going to feel the slightest bit jealous?

Most definitely! Trust me...the little "private jokes" posted on Facebook are a fucking killer.

I have been utterly jealous in the past and it was all based on my insecurities and a major lack of trust in my partner (which, he had cheated on me, so it was warranted). It was horrible and I never want to go through that again.

In my current relationship there are superficial jealousies (if I can make that a word) but they’re fleeting and overall I trust my boyfriend completely. I’ve seen him be jealous with me as well but it’s all been fairly superficial and we talk about it after it happens.

In a relationship.

Have you ever experienced jealousy while being with someone? Absolutely.

Have you ever been jealous? Of course

Are there any positives to being jealous? Probably not, but I believe that the only thing negative about it is if you act out on it. That's when the trouble starts

Does jealousy make you weak or strong? Neither. It's a natural and normal feeling

Insecurity is normal. Everyone deals with to a certain degree...I don't care what they say. It's how you deal with it internally that matters. If you can't do that and your issues start to become other people's problem that's when it is unhealthy.

I should also add....if insecurity starts to interfere with your quality of life, then of course that's unhealthy as well.

I agree. The better you feel about yourself, the less jealous you are of others. However, in a relationship, there is a difference between being jealous and not trusting someone, especially if they have given you reason not to trust them.

I can't see how even the most self-assured individual who TRULY and genuinely loves his/her other half could dismiss another person coming on to them or flirting or whatever.

How you deal with it, of course, is a matter of maturity and level of confidence.

I was jealous once in a "sorta" relationship. In retrospect, I realize my insecurity came from a lack of trust I had in my then partner and the strength of our exclusivity.

I'm too old for that crap these days. My wife is routinely approached by men, and I'm not threatened in the least. I have utter trust in our mutual commitment, and I take the come-ons as a compliment to my good taste. I also no longer see the sense in obsessing over keeping someone where there is the possibility they don't want to be kept. shrug

As with most insecurities, it starts with something in childhood.

Well, everything in life is indicative to childhood experiences. Insecurity is 100% natural and happens to us all. Whether it's exasperated and cultured from experiences in childhood is another thing.

Not really. If your jealous-that means someone has something you want. If you want someone or a thing go get it. If the person doesn't want you-so be it.

I had a ex-girlfriend who was SO jealous that she would be jealous of times that I spent with other friends and relatives (including talking about a past good times with a friends and relatives).

Jealous exists I just don't fully comprehend it. I really don't get being jealous-even if someone went to an exclusive Prince concert-first thought I'm happy for them. Second thought, I wish I could have gone. But no jealousy. (I may say it in a joking manner-but I assure you I'm not jealous.)

I think I was born without the jealousy gene. I think some of the most destructive things in my life I have seen are due to jealousy (mainly co-workers-back stabbing each other etc.).

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Never been jealous... maybe that's not so good since I didn't realize I was being cheated on right away.

I'm a Scorpio. Possessive!! Not necessarily jealous as long as I'm with someone who can be open so that I feel secure. But definitely I get the "Mine!" feeling and will give bitches the back up eye lol.
