Tracy Morgan Is At It Again: FOOT MEET MOUTH

confused DAMN SON CAN YOU TONE IT DOWN??

http://bossip.com/407026/...cy-morgan/

This weekend Tracy Morgan performed standup again for the first time since the scandal over his homophobic remarks earlier this month in Nashville. During two performances at Caroline’s Comedy Club, Tracy apologized several more times, joking:

“My father was the lead singer in the Village People … I would sing the ‘Y.M.C.A.’ the loudest. I was sitting right there when he wrote the song, my daddy. The Indian was my godfather.”

In a serious moment he added, “I don’t have that in me. I believe gay, straight, anybody, everybody’s supposed to be happy in this world, man.” Then he went back to the “comedy.” The New York Times reports:

Resuming his routine, Mr. Morgan warned his audience, “Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids.” As groans and cries of “Uh-oh” were heard, he continued, “Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”

Finally, he concluded with a bit about his alleged teenage romance with a girl he described as “a cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine.

Use of the word "retard" isn't cool and comparing kids to chimps is not cool. I agree he's a commedian but damn, given what he went through you'd think he wouldn't stirthepot so soon.

chimps are surprisingly/unexpectedly strong, like retarded people. I don't see where it's such a comedic stretch. confuse

EDIT:

I actually kind of respect that he's willing to go there that soon after controversy, rather than pussying out till he feels it's "safe" again.

I don't even think he should have went to the lengths he did to apologize about the gay thing. I think he coulda said something brief about how he wouldn't really kill anyone for being gay and that should have been that.

Agreed. The violent aspect to the joke is what made it fall flat. He could've just acknowledged that and moved on. But whiny pc-people need very lengthy apologies or they won't get off your ass. rolleyes

No doubt. And not to say that pc (to an extent) is not without it's good things, having brought some things to public awareness and such...but lawd folk have made it that even comedy is a damn near crime anymore. It's suffocating. sigh

Yeah, this is bullshit now. We can't say "retard" anymore, or even "retarded" when not talking about someone retarded, as in "that movie was retarded".

Fuck the PC thought police, I hope he doesn't apologize.

He's a comedian, in a nightclub, where most comedians say any curse word imaginable in any context imaginable. He wasn't in a school talking to kids, he wasn't giving a speech at the White House.

He's funny as Hell, leave the man alone to be funny. If the PC thought police don't like it, they can go be boring somewhere the fuck else.

No, and one shouldn't say midget. It's their "n" word. And the minority group that faces obstacles and discrimination should be the ones who define what is offensive or not. It's "dwarf" or "little person"

I don't think there should be a laundry list of things folks can't say, but retribution and backlash is perfectly understandable. If Tracy Morgan wants to use retarded people, especially retarded children as fodder for comedy, have at it--but he should also not be surprised when having to deal with those who struggle with the challenges and stigma of raising a family member who is mentally retarded.

I used to think "I'm just telling a joke, so if you're hurt by it, you need to lighten up", but I've evolved a bit since then. Sometimes, it's not just a joke.

If people who deal with exceptional struggles in life can't learn to laugh, then the only choice is to wither and drop dead (at least that's my personal take on adversity).

What is with all this thenthitivity of late? What have they done to you over there in Thailand??

That's like telling black folks to just chill should they see a comedian wearing blackface.

I'm not saying Tracey Morgan shouldn't do his routine or should be censored.

But affected groups have a right to be offended and voice their opinions.

Humor need not lack compassion. shrug

Mental retardation or "retarded" is inappropriate to some. I used it not in a derogatory manner, but in public would never say it.

Midget didn't just suddenly become an offensive word to dwarves.

I get where you're trying to go, but would not put his gay joke incident or this one anywhere near a white comic getting on stage in blackface. Making a joke is not the equivalent. Plenty white comics make black jokes that are very funny.

I'm not equating the two.

But this isn't a matter of scales to me.

My point is that if a group finds something deeply offensive, perhaps the solution is not as simple as telling them to just get a sense of humor. That's all. shrug

There is no (and should probably not be) a solution, is my point.

I'm sorry but I've heard FARRRRRR worse things from legendary comedians, so why is Tracy being used as a dart board lately? confuse Why can't he be entitled to the same freedom of speech as all the many comics before him?

This whole censor the comedian thing is way off balance. Let the man do his thing, he seems reasonable.
