THE VIBE of YOUR CITY (slightly nsfw)

I saw this short film and it so perfectly captured a small part of what is Bangkok that I had to post it.

Warming: There a bit of nudity in it so it's very slightly NSFW

The last minute of the film are what hooked me.

At any rate, I have been utterly blessed with the places that I have lived for the most part.

Other than Alabama, I've enjoyed some of my favorite cities in the world as residences.

I lived outside Kaiserslaughtern Germany which was just a wonderful town to live in.

I lived in Tampa which in my opinion is one of the best cities in America.

The one I'm in right now is....unique. lol

Bangkok has a vibe to it that is both insane and at times terribly charming.

The people here both big city and at the same time very Thai.

I'm not sure where the future will bring me, but I would like to spend some time

in SHanghai or Tokyo and of course Germany again.

Every place I've ever been has been unique in it's own way. Every place

possessed this really great vibe to it.

What is it that gives your town a 'vibe'?

I am not sure yet if I want to watch the video.

Vienna has a nice mixture of ancient history and modern life, that's what I love about it.

Skip to the 3:30 minute mark or so and the more rude aspects of nightlife are done.

It's actually a great short film. Very artfully made.

I don't have a problem with explicity, but you posted it so that made me hesitate lol.

I watched it. I love it that nobody stares at people because that is damn annoying IMO. I don't like it at all that he talks about buying prostitutes as if it is something positive.

I will not show you but if you google Nuevo Laredo, you'll get an idea. I don't encourage people to do so, it's pretty harsh stuff.

I have been there more than once, and I agree, it's nice - seems safe. Riding on public transport feels very safe, even compared to my city. The old stuff is AWESOME to look at, every building is amazing!

My city is a bit dull, being that it's all new - we might have a couple of buildings dating back to 1900, but the rest is that rectangular glass and steel shit sigh

It's supposed to be so cosmopolitan and all that, and I was probably impressed by that when I was younger, but now I see all the 20 and 30-somethings OWNING the city and clacking around in their expensive shoes yakking on their cellphones. I kind of avoid the CBD.

My own burbs are OK, filled with people just like me. I heard from my client that 50% of Australia's (75% or Victoria's) small business activity comes from my immediate suburbs omfg we are busy little fuckers here, thanks to our shitty weather most likely.

It is very safe. you can go to every area of the city day or night on your own dressed sexy and have things of value with you and you should be safe.

I dig Toronto. But I think it struggles to find a discernible vibe.

More than a city known for any one thing, it's a town liked for lots of little things...

* It works well while being amazingly diverse. There's a succession of cultural festivals literally every week throughout the summer, and not 3 days go by without my meeting someone whose ethnicity or cultural backstory I've never come across in my 38 years;

* It's got a certain live-and-let-live air. Are you devoutly religious? Are you a weed head? Are you a suburban blue blood? Are you a seedy club- and back alley-loving urban hipster? Come in, the water's warm!

* It's in proximity to many other cool places like Francophone Quebec, a northern camping/hunting/fishing/skiing expanse, and the Niagara region with its wineries, antique shops and falls.

But through this all I think maybe the most marked thing about Toronto is that it bears the unadorned functionality -- even homeliness -- of a Midwestern American town while enjoying the cache of being a non-American "world city."

Where in the UK are you? And did you think that Toronto had a definite un-European feel to it? Or did much of it feel like home?

I'm from Sussex not far from London.

I felt Toronto felt much more European that other cities in North America, especially with Casa Loma and Little Italy.

I did like it, especially the Toronto island which a lot of locals seem to overlook - it was like a sanctuary away from the middle of the city with a quaint villagey feel.

comfort

you could also hang around the wishing pond at the temple with one of these

although getting one will probably set you back a few months.

On the bright side, lucky you found those nice people to stay with hug

I know! I had my head down, walking along looking for bahts on the floor and just wandered absent-mindedly into their home and they took me in. I must've looked malnourished or something because they wouldn't stop feeding me. smile

it was far from absent-minded no no no! you noticed that crate of chickens on the lawn and made a calculated decision based on a perceived assumption of their wealth!!!

In Sweden last year, I noticed you can now SMS vending machines instead of using coins. Do you think that might affect the length of your stay? Or perhaps if you double your efforts now, Thailand's lag in new-fangled ideas may just give you the advantage?

I don't entirely understand what you just wrote. I'm a simple man and looking for change is all I know. There will still be coins on the ground sometimes won't there? sad

The old lady everyone seems to call 'Mae' just gave me a plate of noodles. She is very kind.

So do the snacks all have mobile phones inside their packets? What do you have to say in the text to get them to come out? confuse
