Game of Thrones on HBO

Based upon the books "A Song of Fire and Ice" by George R.R. Martin. Will anyone be watching? Has anyone read the books?

I've only read the first book and it's great. I have friends who are addicted to the series and can't get enough of the books, and I can see why--he really is an amazing storyteller. I canceled HBO in a fit of rage against my cable company, but I'm thinking of getting it back for this.

After I am done reading my current book, I will probably start reading "A Game of Thrones". I wish Netflix would pick up HBO programming as it does STARZ programming. I wouldn't have HBO if it did.

Wait, Netflix has the Starz shows? I have Netflix. I need to look into this, because there are a couple Starz series I'd like to see.

I'll probably have to get HBO back for True Blood (plus, I really miss Bill Maher). Adding Game of Thrones to it is another compelling reason.

Netflix allows you to stream Spartacus & Camelot episodes. However, it looks like STARZ maybe be discontinuing that service in the future.

HBO has released the first 14 minutes of the first episode. You can watch it below. NSFW

Ive never read the books, so I have no qualm with how this plays out but the first episode while spending way too much time introducing characters and very little plot it was interesting. Ill give it a chance before I proclaim my judgement. Thank god I dont have to deal with the lil boy anymore.

A while back I bought a book on the clearance shelf at Borders by George R.R. Martin. It was pretty interesting (about superheroes in an alternate modern world).

I meant to catch this yesterday, but wound up going to the movies instead.

Can't wait to see it on re-runs.

It got off to a great start. I usually avoid HBO series until the second season because I find that's when they really "take off." But G.o.T. was fascinating from the very beginning. It's like Lord of the Rings by way of Deadwood.

I think the 2 episodes aired have been great so far! Really sticks to the books. I've read them all and am waiting for the book coming out in July.

I watched the first two episodes without having read "Game of Thrones". I am enthralled. I started reading "Game of Thrones" last week. It is amazing how close to the books the show is staying. This is the best show on television, at the moment.

Just watched the first two episodes and... I'm not feeling it. boxed The only character I can even stand is the dwarf. I can see he's gonna be the breakout star of the show.

I'd say based on the books that the storyline will really get going with Episode 4. Episode 3 was another sorta set-up episode, as the characters get in place. It left off where things are just about to get really interesting.

Why does that remind me of "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker"?

But she didn't see the movie
Cuz she hadn't read the book first

The first episode didn't have anything memorable to hook me so far... no characters I bonded with, and the "savage" braided people, doing it doggy style at their beach barbecue seemed very cheesy. As does the undead demon zombie peeps at the beginning. I haven't seen the third episode yet.

I dunno. And it should be my cup of tea.

I've read a lot of fantasy back in middle school and high school, and one of my favorie books of all time is "Arthur Rex" by Thomas Berger. I played D&D in middle school.

But I will keep watching to see if the story or characters do pick up.

I'm finally watching "Mad Men", and that shit is amazing.

But I hear the granddaddy most incredible show EVER put out is "The Wire". Every scene or plot thread supposedly picks up or leads to something huge, even if it's in the next season. I hear that Game of Thrones is supposed to be like that. So I'll keep watching.

The purpose of the first episode is to introduce you to all of the important characters and families. It is a necessary evil. You are right about every scene relating to something in a future episode. There is a lit if foreshadowing.

And I love how HBO ordered a second season based on the reactions to the first episode. Woohoo!
