Heh... actually, my family follows the practice of using ancestors' last names for middle names. It's not a name that I would use in place of my first name, because it never was a first name. Supposedly "Wentworth" was originally bestowed by William the Conqueror as a title of sorts... so it goes back to the 11th century. At some point it mutated into a last name. The Wentworths were a well-known New England family in colonial times, and I'm descended from them. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Wentworth, and when she got married, she started using it as her middle name. From that point forward, my family started giving it as a middle name. It doesn't seem odd to me, but then, I've had the name for my entire life. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
