I have a Playstation 2. It plays DVDs!
And a 27" Panasonic ($125) TV. I have a 13" in the bedroom (not even plugged in, I just moved), and another 13" black and white TV that has a bumper sticker on the top that says "I MILK". That's in the outside storage. But I have a really nice computer. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

It's nothing special. Basically, we've got a 27" Philips TV with a Samsung DVD player and some cheap VCR that my in-laws won as a door prize at a party. (I never use the VCR, but my wife does to tape her favorite shows when she can't be home or doesn't want to stay up late.) The audio feed goes into a Sony bookshelf stereo system.
The one nice thing about this setup is that the DVD player and TV are connected by a component video cable, so I'm very pleased with the picture quality. I've thought about getting some kind of 5.1 surround audio system, if for no other reason than to experience the 5.1 mixes that came on a bonus DVD with the latest Supreme Beings of Leisure CD. Then, in the den/computer room, I'm putting together a DJ setup. Right now it has one Technics SL-1200 turntable and a Numark CDN33 dual CD player, both of which go into a cheap Gemini mixer. (I first bought the mixer simply because I needed a preamp for the turntable.) The mixer then feeds into the "line in" jack of my computer's sound card. The computer itself has Labtec speakers with a subwoofer... nothing great. This month I intend to add a second SL-1200 turntable and upgrade the mixer to something decent. Now, as for car audio... The Miata has a stock Bose system with a CD player and a tape deck. (The cassette unit was an option that I installed myself after ordering the part from a dealer.) Audiophiles love to bash Bose, but it's the best car audio system I've ever had, and besides, a convertible isn't the best listening environment. I also attached a mount to the passenger seat bolt that holds the cradle for Sony's "Plug and Play" XM Satellite Radio... I was not going to drill holes in my dashboard, which is what Sony tells you to do. As for the BMW, the front speakers might be stock, but the previous owner told me he replaced the rear speakers with (obviously cheap) aftermarket replacements. I also removed the factory radio (the display and tape deck were broken) and installed an Aiwa CD player with a line-in jack on the front that accepts a standard stereo 1/8" patch cord, so I can run just about any audio source through it. The sound in the BMW is pretty lousy. but it's a 16-year-old car and I have no interest in putting a lot of money into it... it's just my transportation when the Miata is tucked away in the garage for the winter. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Ice, Just curious. You have Def. Tech's for your front, center and rears. Why did you not go w/ Def. Tech. for your subwoofer as well???

I've noticed every so often Icenine likes to post these 'look at what i've got, i'm in no way bragging or showing off" type-threads.I remember the CD one too, (which i admit was quite impressive)

The Sunfire is a MONSTER of a sub and it is better than the Definitive sub. The Sunfire has a 2,700 watt amplifier in it and it is still a small cube. It really is one of the most amazing subs I have ever heard. Here are the specs on that monster: 2700-watt amp featuring patented Tracking Downconverter power supply Frequency response: 16 Hz to 100 Hz (+0, -3 dB) Greater than 116 dB peak SPL with room gain Input coupling is optical and it accepts standard and high-level inputs Bore 10 inches – stroke 2.35 inches Total air volume displacement is over 360 cubic inches Crossover points variable from 35 Hz to 100 Hz Crossover slope 36 dB/octave Input level (volume) control Phase continuously adjustable 0 to 180 degrees Passive 70 Hz 6 dB per octave hi-pass line level output for satellite loudspeakers Dimensions: 13" by 13" by 13" Two-year warranty Weight: 57 lbs. Moderator | You'd think from the number of your posts you spend more time on the computer than the TV, therefore having an equally impressive computer!
Come on man, where's the MAC? Next week I'll break out the digital camera and do a studio gear thread. I might need a little time for that one. All Rights Reserved. |

My Mac is only impressive in that it has 1.25 gigs of RAM, a few hundred gigs of hard drives, a DVD burner, ProTools cards and a 21" monitor. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

You're all gonna laugh at me...but...
I used to have a complete system by Fisher: turntable, compact disc player, 24 band equalizer (I think)/booster, dual cassette player, and two large speakers to match. I was so proud of that thing...got it in 1986 - I felt like a god with my compact disc player. I have no idea of the quality or lack thereof of Fisher components, but life was pure bliss when I used to be outside washing/polishing the car, on a sunny day, with both speakers out on the porch - letting everybody hear my music.
