ALL ABOUT BRAIDS

I think braided hair is absolutely beautiful. There are so many techniques and it truly is a work of hair art. You've got your corn rolls, your goddess braids, your micro locks, your individual braids, your twists which aren't really braids but look like braids from afar. I just love it all.

Ya feel me??

I always loved braids! But I always wondered how those twists stayed together without unraveling. How do they keep them like that?

My hair frizzes after day 2 in braids. I have to add fake hair to keep my braids smooth.

I used to braid my hair down to my ankles. I added synthetic hair -10 packs uncut.

So one day I went swimming and thought I was the shit... running out the water like I was all sexy like Miss Thang in the movie "10"....

so my head was heavy with hair and the hair was wet and heavy with water... and I tipped over and fell to one side and I had to crawl up the beach on my hands and knees puffing because my head had a damn 40 lb weight on it and my neck couldn't handle it... everytime I tried to stand up I would lean and fall to the side...

yeah, real sexy. neutral

It looked REAL pretty though, I got hit on by so many West Indian men especially and had tons of people walking up to touch my hair, which was annoying especially one time in a restaurant when an older woman HAD to touch my hair to see if it was all real.

She thought it was since I can braid sans those little knots at the top of the extensions. lol

I never braid my hair anymore like that... did that for 4 summers straight, but I have dry scalp and it would look like someone sprinkled corn flakes on my head. :disbeleif: after a week of having my hair braided. So I would re-braid my hair every six days. whew too much fucking work! It took 10 hours to braid in 10 packs of hair in my head and seal the braids (block braids) ...

IF the hair is braided with synthetic hair... you can melt the hair and mold it with your fingers to seal the ends or if the ends are loose you can dip the synthetic hair in boiling water to seal the locks and they will not unravel.

The twists I did I would melt the ends to seal them together just like you would with the braided ends.

I had twists years back--as evidenced by the picture of me cheesing above lol On the day that I would go in to get them tightened up, I loved it. It would get frizzy a week later though.

I think on people of color (black, specifically) they are ageless.

The only time a white person looks good with braids is if they're in their 20's on an island vacation (though I always felt that to be a bit cheesy of them boxed) or on Bo Derek in THAT ONE MOVIE ONLY. So stop it with the braids white people...stop it. neutral

I have been trying to learn how to do this type of braid for the longest but I can't seem to catch on.

It's called an "underbraid" I believe.

It just looks like a very loose french braid, to me. shrug

I guess the title ALL about braids should've tipped me off, but I thought you were talking about fully braided heads.

I won't die or point and giggle if I see a non-black person wearing this type of braid.

Here's another underbraid (note the braid on her left side/your right side)

The braid appears to weave inward - best way I can describe it.

When I see white women in Trinidad having braids it usually looks pretty cheesy IMO. Like as if they are trying too hard and it does not matter if they are on vacation there or living there. In a way it is the same as when black people wear blonde weaves, most of the times it does not look good.

Many white female tourists do that all the time when they travel to the Caribbean. I don't think they're trying too hard. They do it for the fun of it obviously because they're on vacation. When I worked at the airport years ago in NYC, I used to see a lot of white females with their hair braided, returning from vacation with braids and beads in their hair. As far as Black women wearing their either dyed blond or wearing a blond wig or weave, well, that depends on their complexion, Black women do exist in many complexions, not just one. Blond hair on light-skinned black women does not look bad at all. My ex-mother in law, who happens to be a Black, light-skinned female, was born with blond hair.

Two of my sisters, were born with light brown hair with blond highlights, and it looked good on them, and it darkened as they got older, so you can't really judge all black women and say blond hair doesn't look good on all of them, since Black women appear in many complexions. So it depends on their complexions. I do find however, think darker hair looks better on darker-complected Black females though, because darker hair compliments their darker and medium brown complexions better in my opinon.
