The prank feels a lot like last year's "SNL" digital short "The Curse" in which Andy Samberg was haunted by a similar bare-chested, mullet-donning, tight-pants-wearing saxophonist (played by Jon Hamm) who barges into a Samberg business meeting, date, and even birth of his child unannounced. According to Mike Diva, Flores helped inspire that digital short.

The "SNL" skit is also said to be based on musician Timmy Cappello's appearance in the 1987 vampire movie "The Lost Boys." Cappello, who has worked with Tina Turner, Peter Gabriel, and Ringo Starr, flexes his muscles and thrusts his pelvis while performing "I Still Believe" on sax.
