Lemme think on it a bit. I've been eating a lot of salads lately, myself - but I'll try to think of what I used to eat when I was doing a hard-core low-carb diet.

I know!

I subscribed to the Atkins site so I get some out of there now and then.

I’m having the HARDest time getting motivated right now.

As most of you know, I lost 50 pounds a couple of years ago. It wasn’t all I needed to lose, but I decided to happily maintain for a while and let my body adjust.

I gained 10 last year (new boyfriend happy weight) and managed to take that 10 back off starting at the beginning of this year, but I wanted to lose an additional 25. Instead of keeping up my great momentum, I have been losing and gaining the same 3 pounds ever since, for months now.

And I know why – I’m eating too many calories. I know it’s mostly stress and worry causing me to make bad choices, but I can’t seem to turn it around this time.

It’s very frustrating.

It is frustrating but you can do it! woot!

My diet is too hard to explain in a post but its been a year now and i have lost 64 lbs woot!

Simple explanation is, keeping within my calories allowed for the day, eating only lean proteins, good carbs and fats on days I work out. Much less carbs and more good fats on days I don't work out. My diet is more for someone trying to lose fat. I workout at least 4 times a week, doing all cardio for an hour each day

and I would have never posted this much of my body on the org before, but now I feel a little better smile

I love Ron. touched

I'm with him on the nutmeg in veggies, though. Oddly enough, though - I have a recipe for chicken salad that uses coriander and nutmeg that's pretty good. It has grapes and almonds in it, too - which is probably why the sweeter spices work.

A really good, quick dinner that's low-carb is a frittata. Instead of putting potatoes in it, just double down on whatever veggies you use. Cook up a little chopped bacon, then throw the veggies in the bacon fat and sauté them 'til tender. Meanwhile, beat 4 eggs (or however many you'd use for the two of you) with a couple tablespoons of sour cream (or half and half or cream - whatever you have) and season as you like (salt and pepper are fine).

When the veggies are tender, dump the eggs in there and cook until they're just set around the edges. Sprinkle the top with cheese, then pop it under the broiler 'til it's browned a bit on top. Slide the frittata onto a plate and you have dinner! smile

Yeah, I never used to do strenth training because I was always afraid it was just going to make me bulk up, but it was the opposite, I got leaner. Muscle burns fat.

Exactly, and I'm amazed so many women have that misconception about strength-training. You won't look like the Hulk because your systems are different. Push yourself, do bench-presses, military presses, squats, dead-lifts, same as the guys.

You'll be amazed at how easier it is to do certain things around the house(or at work) once you hit the iron.

I'm in.

I've lost over 20 lbs in the past 3 months. Most of that is the result of a depressed appetite, but I have been diligently going to the gym 3x a week. Having a gym that you LIKE makes a world of a difference! Some buddies have been very helpful & giving me tips so that I can look DIESEL in no time!

lol

Portion control is key. You can eat what you want as long as you control yourself. I used to eat bacon anywhere from 5 - 10 times a week! (breakfast and lunch). I used to drink coca-cola 2x a day. I used to supersize my meals. NOW, I limit bacon to 1 or 2 times a week (Friday morning is my usual bacon/egg/cheese sandwich for breakfast), I eat inly until my hunger is satiated (rarely ever finishing my meals...in fact a "combination plate" from most chinese take-out joints can be split into 2 full-sized dinners!), and I splurge on a coke maybe once every couple of weeks. Now I have to increase my "good food" intake, like protein, so that I can grow some massive guns.

evillol

Lately I've been drinking beer "alot" (since I only learned to drink beer 3 years ago @ age 37, "alot" is a relative term compared to most guys), having greasy burgers evry now & then, and have been getting lax with the ab exercises. As a result, I have a more noticeable spare tire than a few weeks ago. So moral of the story is; keep consistent!!!

My motivation? Summer and Match.com

runphilrun

I can't emphasize enough how running has helped me lose the weight. The diet thing helped tremendously at first, but maintaining my current weight couldn't have been acomplished with out my running regimen. I'm not saying people should go out and start training for a Marathon, but one can start by having their goal on a local 5k or 10k. Once the weight comes off a Half-Marathon or even a Marathon won't look like an impossibility as before.

My issue is I loooooove food and I eat emotionally.

I don’t eat meat, I rarely eat fried foods or pizza or crap. I eat mostly fresh veggies and fruits (at least 50% organic), whole grains (cereal, bread, pasta), legumes, rice, soy, wheat protein, low fat dairy, etc. I don’t eat fast food. I limit packaged foods and make most of my meals.

I do cardio at least 3 times a week, lift weights twice a week and yoga or some variation (thai chi, pilates) at least once a week.

Overall, I’m very healthy.

My downfall is eating out on weekends and emotional eating. I love ice cream, chocolate, pastry yummy stuff, etc. and while I can make room for a little in my diet, (and have very successfully in the past while I was losing) lately I can’t stop at a little. I’m managing to maintain, but I can’t seem to cut the “treats” out well enough to lose.

I need to find a way to further limit eating out socially and desserts. sigh

I think the bottom line on exercise is that you have to find something (or several things) you like to do - so that the exercise doesn't feel like work.

I am simply not going to be a runner. I am not built for it, and it will always be difficult and painful. Running is punishment, for me. But riding a bike? That I can do - and I get out there a lot when the weather cooperates.

After several bouts with tendonitis caused by strength imbalances, I no longer do linear weight training. I do more rotational/functional strength work. Indian clubs, kettle bells - that sort of thing. I find that working the rotation helps me hit all those small muscle groups you can't get to when you're doing straight weight training - and that set you up for the kinds of problems I had.

And when I golf, I walk - which is more difficult than most people think. The only time I ride is if I'm playing 18 on a hilly course. But 18 on a relatively flat course? I'll leg it.

I'm lucky at the moment not to have much of a social life lol and the few times I have been invited here or there, I have turned them down. I still have weight to lose and until it comes off I need to keep being strict with myself!

I've been fighting the battle of the bulge for about 30 years now and I'm exhausted! I've reached my goal weight on several ocassions over the years only to end up gaining it back. My main problem is I'm an emotional eater. When I'm stressed, depressed or angry, I eat. Hell, even when I'm happy, I eat.

My main thing now is just concentrating on portion control and exercising and not being overly concerned about what the scale is saying. I'm at a point where I'm finally getting back into clothes that I was not able to wear just a few months ago but the numbers on the scale don't seem to want to cooperate, which makes me frustrated, which makes me want to eat. So, I agree with whomever said throw the scale out.

That is really true. If your food ain't right, you can exercise 'til you're blue in the face and it won't matter a damn.

That's right!

It's all about the choices you make with food, you can eat that one cookie or three cups of veggies, the veggies will do your body way more good! nod And I love to eat, the more food the better! So I really have to watch what I'm putting in my mouth all the time.

I haven't completely given up some goodies, most days I still have dark chocolate but I only have half of a 100 calories bar, I also eat ginger snap cookies, maybe two a day but they are very small lol

Was is super active to you? I hope you are not spending more than an hour working out wink

Okay guys so we've all checked in with what type of diet we want to follow and it sounds like were all aware of our strenghts and weaknesses.

Now, lets be positive. We all know we can do it and we are acountable to ourselves and even eachother.

So starting with today, or if you want tomorrow list one positive action you took towards your health, and if you'd like one thing you did that you are going to TRY not to do the next day.

We'll be eachothers cheerleaders! woot!

Positive: I actually got to work out for my 45 mins. I did lower body, abs, and cardio.

Negative: I ate one of the kids leftover rolls slathered in butter when cleaning up the dishes. lol
