I was really reluctant to watch this because I am not into tran-anything. But I loved the movie.

I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

After reading the thread on Tyler Perry vs. Spike Lee, I'm in the need for some good black films that have diverse characters, personalities, faults, etc. I can only stand to watch so many black films full of walking stereotypes (which is usually the case regardless of the race of the director). Post some lesser known ones!

Nothing But A Man (1964)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058414/

I need to see this one again but it blew me away the first time.

nothing but a man is an amazing film... i absolutely love abbey lincoln so it was great to see her here.

mushy I love Kingdom Come. LL has really developed into a nice supporting actor/comedic actor. I see Bow Wow following in his footsteps.

I've seen part of Taps and have to check out the other film you posted.
