Post some positive black films! After reading the thread on Tyler Perry vs. Spike Lee, I'm in the need for some good black films that have diverse characters, personalities, faults, etc. I can only stand to watch so many black films full of walking stereotypes (which is usually the case regardless of the race of the director). Post some lesser known ones!
Nothing But A Man (1964)

I need to see this one again but it blew me away the first time. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I get uncomfortable watching anything that is racist and feel mildly guilty even though none of my relatives were slave owners or known rascists.
My guilty pleasure genres - kung fu and teen movies.

Cotton Club is not technically a "black film" but gatdamn this is one of the baddest ensemble casts EVER IMO. I don't understand how this flopped. Plus, it's the first time Larry Fishburne played Bumpy Johnson and he was foiner than frog's hair.
And of course my baby daddy Gregory Hines. Love the scenes with his brother. I still can't believe he's gone. Can't forget the lovely Lonette McKee

That's the kinda man I need in my life. Somebody who will flush a fool down the toilet when he get out of line!!! I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

And I love that everybody was fly to DEATH in the movie. Francis did us right.
I've always said that somebody needs to tell the story of Madame Queen Stephanie St Clair who ran the numbers racket in Harlem before Bumpy. Very interesting black female character. She's the character Cicely Tyson played in Hoodlum. All these sistas outta work and ain't none of them optioned that shit???

Not a "black film" but a great black lead character.
