As soon as the next mod is online you're banned anyway. You have posted enough for 10 orgers to be banned on the other thread already, no need to start it on this one too.

Gorgeous. It's talented friends you have there. We don't see enough of these in fashion magazines/the mainstream media [the general, mass ones I mean, obviously not the small niche of magazines for the African/non-white market].

Thanks on behalf of my buddies @ ThrutheEyesofWonder and MJJstudent. biggrin

And yes thanks Flo6, there are definately a slew of incredibly talented African designers who are superb in everything from Ready to Wear, Couture and Bridal designs. But things are changing slowly but surely because I had the opportunity to attend Couture Fashion week back in February of this year in NYC and a handful of the designers showing collections were African because it was a special "Focus on the top African designers" day. But many others have also made it into regular Fashion Week showings mingling with well known American designers. It's very nice to see.

Awwww lavender! hug

I loved those fashions. I could use me a couple...summer's comin' wink

I love exploring every aspect of African culture. It's spread throughout the world and has morphed into so many different forms, each one unqiue, different and exciting. And I figured it's time we gave tribute to all of them. biggrin

That's because different ethnic groups of the Caribbean, listen to different types of Caribbean music;it depends on the dominant/group that populates the islands. You have Caribbeans moving from island to island, and when they do that, some islands' cultures change, along with the most-listened to type of music. In the U.S. VI before the 90s it was more of a salsa/calypso feel, until Jamaicans started moving in, and you'll mostly hear reggae music there, although you may find some calypso/soca/salsa mixture in there too.

[Edited 4/25/11 17:04pm]

Trinidad is very much dominated by Jamaican music.

It's actually "reggae" music, which is dominated by Jamaicans. Most of the islands have taken on the reggae style music since the mid 80s. I noticed the difference when I went to visit family. I remember when reggae music hit the UK hard in the very, early 80s as well, and many British groups adopted that style.

Let's not forget about New Orleans...the perfect crossroads between French, Spanish, and Afrikan cultures.

The Jazz..

The Food (inspired by both french and Afrikan cuisine):

Also, a lot of the New Orleans culture came out of Haiti. So many people don't know that. I've always loved New Orleans style music, and some of their food, especially cajun style, since it's spicy like many Caribbean foods.

I"m moved..

her work is indeed compelling... i'm happy because i recently found her book 'tar beach' at a garage sale... her daughter is michele wallace, who wrote the book 'black macho and the myth of the superwoman'. i don't agree with the premise of the book (since i do support black nationalism in many ways) but i do feel the book needed to be written, in order to create a larger discussion. i have an original copy of the book, but in later years she actually changed her opinion about certain things since the original publicagion of the book.

cara walker's work also shares similar sentiments as ringgold's i think. it tells the natrratives of people who were either slaves, or descendents of slaves, and the modern ramifications...

drool Girl the moment I saw this post I was like OZWALD! bawl Funny I didn't even recognize his suits as the ones Stanny wore. I first heard of him through the Matrix movies because you know the initial reviews were heavy on the "style". I must say he wears his suits quite well. This is what you call bringing sexy back. Didn't he design for Justin too when JT was trying to look all grown up and shit?

And um....we might have to share on that baby daddy and have us some project twins! nod
