Let's have an art appreciation thread!

Who here's an art lover?

Post some images of art or architecture through the ages that move you..

Here's some of mine. I'll start with architecture...

The pyramids at Gizeh, ca. 2500-2400 BCE, Old Kingdom Timeless....

The Parthenon, High Classical, Greek ca. 450 BCE Pretty much the model used for many buildings in modern architecture. Doric architecture at it's finest.

Sainte Chapelle Cathedral, Paris, France. ca. 1230 CE. Such a beautiful cathedral. Almost 3/4 of it is made of stained glass. Truly a marvel of High Gothic architecture. When you stand in it, you are surrounded by purple/red light. It's magical...I wanna visit it someday.

Gislebertus, The Last Judgement from Autun Cathedral, Romanesque, ca. 1100 CE This relief scares the daylights out of me. So realistic..it was meant as a scare tactic by the church to beckon the sinners. lol

Hadrian's Pantheon. High Empire, Rome, Italy, ca. 125 CE The dome just amazes me...really is the gateway to the Heavens..

Two of my most favorite paintings

The Innocent Eye Test by Mark Tansey (in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC)

[img:$uid]http://www.101bananas.com/art/innocent3.jpg[/img:$uid]

and Abstract Painting by Ad Reinhardt (in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC) - it's not *just* a black canvas,

[img:$uid]http://www.moma.org/collection_images/resized/264/w500h420/CRI_179264.jpg[/img:$uid]

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
