Do you have a black cat? I do and he is the most vocal cat I've ever had...and a friend who has one also says her blackie meows up a storm too.
This cat will respond to anything you say to it like he's talking back. I know that Siamese cats are known to talk a lot but was wondering if black cats (or maybe it's male cats) are known to be talkative...and super friendly?
One other thing...do all black cats have a small patch of white on their tummy or elsewhere? I've never seen one without it.

I have a new grey and white cat, and she is very vocal, and yowls her ass off, waking up the neighbors. Time to get her spayed next week.
My sister has an all black cat, with no white patches on her fur. He is very quiet and well-trained, hardly meows. [Edited 4/11/11 20:20pm]

I bet you that her black cat has at least a few little white hairs on her belly....I swear...it's the weirdest thing ever. I googled and saw that others have asked this and it appears that almost all have some white on them somewhere.
I wonder why that is. | |

I owned a black cat (my favorite ever actually). But he was half Siamese, so even though he didn't look Siamese, he had alot of their personality quirks.
Siamese cats are a bit different from many cats. They're not as specialized as the Turkish Van (a swimming cat) persay, but generations of being exposed to human beings has caused some of the feline adaptations to subside. For example, they actually don't have great nightime vision like other cats, but their ability to see color is pretty good comparatively.
They will also follow your ass around like a damned dog. And their meow is ....distinct.
He looked exactly like these: http://youtu.be/rrONFl4IF5A
His meow (though not as loud): http://youtu.be/cUyt_GNrF1U
Sometimes people think they're upset because of the growly nature of their meows, but they're not. They're very sweet cats...and something very rare with cats, they're loyal. You're a real fucker. Yeah, mine plays fetch too.
Maybe it's more of a male cat thing. All the females I've had were moody but I've had 2 boys over the years and they are awesome.
I'm not convinced your husband's cat was 100% black though.

My cat looks exactly like the ones in the first vid but does not sound like Anne Ramsey from Throw Momma from the Train like in the second vid.

I love black cats, and I luuuuurve Siamese cats.
I remember when my friends would come over and hear the cat for the first time (they're ver chatty), and my friends would say, "what the fuck was that?"

Nope, he has absolutely no patches of white fur on him at all. I have a pic of him somewhere. If I find it, I'll post it. I used to have a black/white kitten, years ago, but gave her away to a child relative who fell in love with her.

Never heard anything suggesting black cats might be generally more talkative. Interesting. I have seen all-black cats, though, without any lighter color patches whatsoever. Very beautiful. I've always wanted one.
Everything I've encountered does support that Siamese are a very vocal species, BTW. They seem either to be totally all over you or completely avoid you temperament-wise, but they do invariably seem to talk a lot. My own cat is half Manx (really rambunctious in nature) and, we think, part Siamese or the related Tonkinese from a generation or two back. With that mix, we may as well have a dog. Total sweetheart, but he very much commands attention. [Edited 4/11/11 20:45pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Ok, so my neice borrows my phone to make little videos and I just found this one on it. My cat who is usually super friendly does not look amused (he would never be nasty though) and I don't know why he is covered in cobwebs either.

Well, I don't mean a big patches of white. It's usually a small spot or a small cluster of white hairs and apparently it's mostly found under their belly or chin.
I'm pretty sure my cat was solid black when he was younger but as he ages, he seems to get more and more white hairs in that spot.
I'm starting to think, though that maybe it's just male cats in general that are more friendly and talkative.

he was, I remember looking through his fur and marvelling how completely black he was. Even his paw pads were black!

Well, mine is all black too, pads, gums, everything...except those white hairs.
Perhaps he was totally black...but reading more about them online, almost all have at least a few white hairs tucked away somewhere.
Guess a 100% black cat is pretty rare.

my black cat, she is very vocal. she whines for attention. she is my shadow, hence why we named her shadow. In the apartment adjacent to ours is where her formal owner used to live. the big gorilla king kong of the the apartment manager told the formal owners to get rid of the cat or else sleep in the pavement. so they literally kicked her out of the apartment. she came limping to our house where we feed her and nurtured her like a baby bird. she loves us and we do too!
this is her!

I have a fully black cat, his name is Moor. Yesterday, he came to me and i really thought he said "hello". LOL!. He talks a lot! non-stop.
The funny thing, i have another cat, Truus, she's very little and cute....but she's the butch one. Moor is always around me, wants to cuddle, sleeps with me all the time. Moor looks butch, but he isn't, Truus is actually the man of the house.

My sister does. Her name is "Vanity" and she's completely black.
I've never been a cat person, but I love her. She's so sweet!
My sister constantly sends me pix of her... If we're sharing, I have a TON! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I agree. My sister has two male cats, one 100% Black hair, but not as needy as the long-haired, orange and white tabby cat my sister owns. That one always wants attention from whomever is in the house. The Black cat my sister has, pretty much does his own thing, and only once in a while purrs for attention. I'm thinking about getting a black cat for my gray/white, short-haired tabby.

I used to and I adored them! Precisely for the fact that they were so vocally communicative
My black cats communicated with direct eye contact when they wanted to be held, they communicated in deep conversation over kitty dinner together, and they were extraordinarily vocal if one or the other was ill and they would bring it to your attention. Only one of my black cats had a white patch, I believe if memory serves me correctly it was on his neck area,a little fluffy puff almost like a cartoon character.
Black cats are cool. I think I originally got one to bust up the myth in my cultural folklore that says they are bad luck.

I only ever had three cats as pets....
a black cat was one of them, she had blue skin. She was beautiful, I never remebered seeing any white markings on her.. my mom made me give her away because she thought they were bad luck. Had her for two years...
We also owned and orange tabby... she was a beast. She would yowl and climb on you to feed her. She was a biter and very vocal, she also would scratch you if you pet her at the wrong time. You would have to wait for her to come to you.. if not,
but the kitty I loved the most why mt shy little white cat, she had green eyes and she was a dirty little fluffy kitten we found abandoned in the street. We had her for YEARS and not even my best friend -who would come by daily even was aware of her presence. She was shocked one day when my little Meesu appeared and laid on my bed, my friend was like "You just got a cat???"
me: "Naw we had her for years now"
She would hide all day and make cameo appearances, she hated noise, but she would seek refuge in my room, she liked to sleep across my neck. She was painfully shy, when we moved my mom tried to place a blacket in the carrier to make her comfortable, but she shot out and ran out the door... and ran and ran... we never saw her again. Maybe she hated us....
Despite my allergies and asthma I loved her, and owning cats doesn't make your allergies any better .. I kept a runny nose when I owned any pet.

I have a black/dark brown Maine Coon cat. She is very doglike, comes when I call her, very dependent and extremely affectionate. And yes, she talks up a storm. I call it yelling sometimes-she knows how to make her point "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I love my cat. He's hilarious.
When I play classical music he will sit in front of the speaker. He digs Prince too.
Even the slightest tone of R&B just makes him crazy. He'll leave the house, shaking is head. The neighbour once had a R&B album on, he was miaouwing so loud and long untill he changed the record. My cat stopped making noise.
I was supposed to look after him just for a few weeks. That's 6 years ago. I could not miss him anymore. At least two times a day, he makes me laugh.
So, he's called Angel. My neighbours call him "Angel of death" or "Hell's Angel".
He takes his role as 'the man in the house' very serious. Every week he comes home with some wound or limping paw.
He's quite a phenomenon in my neighbourhood

It's funny how cats tend to be able to distinguish between musical styles. I was playing a Jay-Z song, my cat would not stop yawling. I took it off and put on some Nancy Wilson and he calmed right down. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
