Sorry to hear that...And more sorry to hear that you're majoring in Chemistry My major is dietetics and I had to take Organic Chemistry last year.....Lab was easy but class was so hard I cried after my first exam...And I'm ASIAN I'm supposed to be good at this science crap UGH!! I have a similar situation. I have a scholarship I cannot afford to lose. If my cumulative GPA ever goes down below 3.25 I'll lose my scholarship and I'll get kicked out of the university because I won't be able to pay the tuition anymore...ha...(Sometimes though, I don't know if I'm studying hard for my future or just so that I can hold on to scholarship...It's so stupid, I know)
Anyway, what was the class average for retest? No professor is allowed to fail entire class. Our school policy is if a professor fails more than 50% of class more than 2 semester terms, he will get a warning and if he does that 3 semester terms, school can fire him. So...if the class average of restest was not decent, he will CURVE the grade at the end for sure. Just like my organic chem...(chemistry 331) Class average was so low I was getting 72%, and I ended with a B.
I think the best solution would be talking to professor. Check his office hours on the syllabus and go to his office...And I'd e-mail him first before I'd go talk to him(well, I'm sure you know how it goes^_^ For my Organic Chemistry class, I went to talk to my professor and told him how I was overwhelmed with school and work (I was taking 18 credit and working 24hrs a week), and how I was frustrated with this subject because I felt like I wasn't fully understanding the material. I told him I don't feel like I did my best on the exams. And I told him about my scholarship situation as well. He told me there's unfortunately no extra-credit activity for this class but if I did well on my final I'd have nothing to worry about because he was going to curve grade at the end. He even told me before Final exam, I can come to his office and ask questions and he can quiz me so that I can make sure I was well-prepared for the final. I gained confidence after that and I did what he told me. I went to his office 3 days before final and he asked me a lot of questions that helped me a lot on the actual final exam. Final was very hard, as expected, but I ended with a B and I couldn't be happier....
Don't just ask your professor how you could do well on the final but be completely honest about the whole thing...Personal things are always good to add +_+ Tell him how you tried solving problems in the book and yet you're having troubles with actual exams because you get lost when it's applied with more complicated numbers and equations...He should give you sample questions and if he's a decent professor he'll try to help you out with explaining problems one by one...Oh and tell him you're planning to go to grad school and you cumulative can't go below 3.5 haha if your professor is Asian he'll be very understanding to nerds I hope you get through this......We have less than 3 weeks of school left +_+ So...GOOD LUCK!
