Denzel Washigton's Antoine Fisher- A Great Movie

There was a thread here last week talking about the lack of support for Denzel's directorial debut movie. All I have to say that I went out to see it last week and came away from the movie enriched. The movie also reenforced some things about the importance of family. Actually, they're lot of good strong messages in this movie.

Denzel you did a great job in this movie!!!

I read the book first and really wasn't expecting the movie to be that good. This is the first time I have ever seen a movie that is better than the book. I am so sorry I didn't support this movie when it first came out. The movie takes turns and tells stories that are only briefly mentioned in the book. I also held off seeing the movie because I felt that the lead character had been mis-cast, but he turned out to be the perfect "Antoine". And, of course, Denzel was astounding. Had Derek Luke not been such a strong actor Denzel could have easily taken over the movie and become the main/focal character.

Call me a communist, but I didn't really like the movie. the performances were fair, but I thought the plot was slow and anticlimactic, and story somewhat cliche-riddled. I love Denzel, and a college professor and personal friend of mine even made his on-screen debut in the movie (Dr. Fran Dorsey as the store owner who shot Antoine's pal!!!), but the movie left me a little disappointed, personally.

Still, I support independent black cinema, and I commend Denzel's initiative to bring the inspiring story to the big screen. If only for the sake of ensuring a safer environment for this sort of effort, I'd recommend supporting it financially.

Lammastide - you are not a Communist just because you weren't bowled over by the movie. Now, if you said you hated Denzel then you would be a Communist! lol nuts nod
