Any Boxers Here?

Started boxing up again this week, i was an amateur for a few years and i loved the sport. I stopped when i came to L.A, Cause i was to busy with school. I found some time and joined this local boxing gym, i love this sport so much

Any one else done any kind of boxing?

I´m thinking about starting it but I´m a bit worried because of bone fractures in the past. Then again, I heard that punching a bag strengthens your bones because the bones get slightly damaged and repaired again, and become thicker and stronger. A couple of friends have been boxing for two decades now and want me to join them. Maybe in a few weeks.

Wasn´t it very difficult for you to get into it again? How is your stamina? How are your joints? Any pain?

do boxers develop arthritis and stuff in later years? (I mean worse than they might otherwise have had?) sorry don't mean to be a downer lol but I am curious about this.

Hence my question about his joints. wink

On the other hand, as I said above, regular punching can indeed strengthen your bones and increase their density. But arthritis could be a serious problem.

I'm sure the bones get VERY strong, but where they meet is another story nod

I feel great!, pretty sore but in a good way. My joints feel good, and i mean i was there a good 3 hours, so i got an intense workout. My stamina is good, but my moves are weak right

It's something I've actually wanted to try, mostly just learning the techniques, the physical training, and sparring, not actual competition. Unfortunately my shoulder is a little too jacked up for me to go all out with it. I'd have to strengthen the muscle around it A LOT before I could really get in the ring. I'd just rather do something like that to get a work out than run on a treadmill or something boring like that.

Also considered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. From what I understand it's a ridiculous workout.

I have been training in Muay Thai Kickboxing since College. We will spar in class, but I have no desire to take it to the amateur level.

I love Muay Thai because it is more similar to boxing in training as opposed to traditional martial arts. We have a lot of former boxers who train with us so we have learned much from them.

There are some boxers who never shake the joint pain. Floyd Mayweather Jr, for example, has very fragile hands so he has to be careful on the heavy bag.

I have heard of some boxers switching to water filled heavy bags, which is supposed to mimic the feel of the human body more, but there is less damage on the wrists/hands.
