Katie Segal is so cute. Mixed feeling about the dress.

Ditto. She's elegant, but slouching toward stank. lol It's somehow fitting for an aging Peg Bundy, though.

Who was the lady in the floral Valentino? It looked very springish, but I loved that look on her.

Agreed, but she usually does "not-normal" very well. This was a mess.

A mess is a mess is a mess. I don't care how cool the person normally is. lol

THE GOOD:

BEST DRESSED: Piper Perabo in Oscar De LaRenta drool perfection from head to toe.

Olivia Wilde (though I woud've preferred the hair up). And did you see her shoes??? faint

Claire Danes

Emma Stone

Scarlet Johansen- I thought she looked lovely. A bit old (like if Helen Mirren or Meryl can wear it, it's probably too old for you), but she still looked pretty. I loved her hair most of all.

J Lo looked stunning as always.

Viva la Fonda! clapping

THE COULDA-SHOULDA'S

Anne Hathaway's Armani Prive dress was faint but she needed sexier makeup and hair. Her makeup should've been more like Eva Langoria's. Her blah hair detracted from that amazing gown. pout

Tilda Swinton looked good from the neck up (maybe even the waist if you could figure out where it was), but that out fit was a train wreck. If she'd worn a top like that (I don't know if it was separates or one dress) with some sharp pants, and statement shoes she would've been AMAZING.

Angelina Jolie...loved the dress, hated the hair. HATED it. yawn

The chick from Mad Men in the green Donna Karan. That dress should've been VAVAVOOM!, but not with that taking-the-kids-to-the-mall-after-work hair.

THE BAD:

Helena, Helena, Helena disbelief
Gorgeous woman, looked like a clown threw up on her ass on the way to the show. sigh

Sandra Bullock. neutral That wig was eating her head before our very eyes. shake And don't get me started on the granny dress.

Michelle Williams- The short hair was rockin love (very Rosemary's Baby), but that dress. You're going to an awards ceremony, not a sunday afternoon hippy beach wedding.

Milla Jovovich hrmph

THE WTF???

Annette Benning, was that hair on purpose?? neutral

My Julianne Moore...bawl

I about fell out of my chair when I saw HBC's shoes! They looked like a pair of Payless dye-to-match shoes, one dyed red & one dyed green! FANTASTIC!

There's nothing about what she did that was giving convention the finger. She still walked the red carpet in something with a huge designer tag and went to the trouble of extensive hair and makeup. She just did it all tragically and poorly.

If you really want to give convention the finger, you show up in something accessible (like an outfit that you or I could afford from a regular store), Nothing would give convention the finger more than to show up looking fab (totally doable) and when asked "who are you wearing" say "OH we grabbed this at Macy's." shrug

LOL. I just don't see it that way. She dresses enough like this that it's just what she wants to do with the designer things she buys. She treats them as if they were the clothing from Macy's.

Sharon Stone did what you're talking about several years ago when she wore a black suit with a black shirt from The Gap underneath. That was remarkable in it's own rite, but not the bat shit crazy of HBC.

If Helena's way to stick it to convention is to prove that you can spend more than most people make in a month to look like a clown...then I guess she did an awesome job of that tonight. lol But I get that breaking convention need not have anything to do with price tags or designer labels.

I guess I think that sticking it to convention is sort of meaningless if you have to put a whole lot of effort into it and it comes off sloppy.

It didn't even come off as eccentric (which I love) to me, because it wasn't well executed.

HBC is no Isabella Blow.

This will be a messy quote-type comment because my iPad is awkward with quoting long post, so pls bear with me.

I thought Piper looked lovely except for the huge bow because it's being done a lot this year.

Olivia Wilde was a total bombshell last year so for me this year was a bit of a letdown...except the shoes which were stunning.

Emma Stone BEAUTIFUL!

I loved seeing so much pink.

I was really surprised at how many people had one element of their look so off it brought down the entire look.

I am not a big fan of all the satin-y shine worn tonight, especially in the real bright colors, bordered on prom-ish to me.

And on a non-fashion note Ricky Gervais was kinda lame tonight. I'm a huge fan, but tonight he did a lot of easy target jokes that were funny a couple of months ago if not years..."Here's Ashton Kutcher's dad Bruce Willis"...talk about beating a dead horse.
