Culinary Art

Does anyone like to cook? If so, what is your favorite dish to cook? Mine is a nice lobster tail, grill steak, baked potatoes, and a salad.

I do biggrin

I love to cook for others... I can cook anything, really.. but my 'specialty' I guess is desserts.. tarts, frozen tortes, various cakes, cookies (which, technically, are cakes...), pies, etc.

-- although I haven't made a pie crust from scratch in years; I don't enjoy that so much... lol

I also make a very nice lasanga, and I've seen ppl fight over my cheesecakes lol

i have a sweet tooth smile

at my old job, I was also always the baker for all birthdays, baby/wedding showers, etc. - they paid me, too smile

a coworker loved the PowerPuffGirls, so I did this for her birthday.. Plain cheesecake, w/8 individual Almond cheesecakes. the edible heart came with the rest of the PPG cake decorations

the boss/owner turned 40

I think this was chocolate (fam recipe), with a whiskey-cocoa buttercream filling (I chose that b/c the consistency was a little gritty [due to type of sugar used], like dirt), and cream cheese icing I tinted green for the 'grass'. I bought the edible flowers; I don't have patience to make them, and mount them on metal skewers for bouquets and such.. lol

2-layer hexagon petal shaped Strawberry Shortcake with fresh whipped cream

2 frozen tortes (one with chocolate covered strawberries & handmade chocolate leaves, other with Roches and edible gold Dragées [the one starting to melt, lol]), and a Spanish Almond cake

square plain cheesecake

Ice cream cake - found a huge pic of my nephew's fav. wrestler at the time, The Rock (mine, too.. LOL) .. Used my image editing program to add an insert of nephew, took to my bake supply shop to have and edible photo made for his 3rd birthday.. flew down to GA/SC in late july -- height of our summer -- with all my ice cream cake makin' supplies and spent a few hours in the kitchen with the air conditioning cranked all the way up lol putting it together. biggrin

the white "icing" is frozen homemade whip cream.. cake part was chocolate.. I forget what ice cream flavors I used (I had gotten experience making a mint-chocolate chip ice cream cake for a coworker)

Another one for the boss, his 39th b'day. I forget what kind of cake it was, but I stuck his face on Chirstopher Reeve's Superman body, coworker added cell phone to his utility belt (dude *never* was without it.. lol ) - I had the edible photo made

there's more, I just don't have 'em scanned..

various fruit-filled tarts

Carrot cake - made with honey instead of sugar

various cheesecakes, various sizes - from 4" to 14" - various shapes (round, sqaure, hearts), various toppings (sour cream, sweet cream, fruit, vanilla cream, kirschwasser, etc.)

Kahlúa cheesecake

Cocoa cheesecake (with Dutch-processed cocoa)

- a combo of the 2 above

Brandy cheesecake

Earthquake Cake

Black Russian cake (made with vodka and Kahlúa)

Whiskey-cocoa cake

cakes with fondant icing

various cream cheese and buttercream icings

this guy I couldn't stand (none of us could) asked for a cake that looked like a giant cookie, so I used 12" round pizza sheets to make 2 giant choc chip cookies and I used as the base and top of his 12" cake..

I love making stuff from scratch... I use organic products where I can, and never use imitation extracts (vanilla, lemon, almond, etc.)..

also, you know what you're eating.. and you can always modify in case someone can't have an ingredient ~ like, if they keep Kosher, or have certain food allergies.. smile

Cooking is very frustrating to me.

I don't have the patience to be a really good cook and the thought of spending HOURS on a meal that will be devoured in a quick minute *ack* I shudder at the thought.
I'm firmly planted in denial

I tend to only enjoy cooking when I actually don't HAVE to do it

for some reason, just before dinner time is when I feel really sleepy and lethargic, so standing in the kitchen making stuff is torture. I can make some things in the morning, but salads and fish and stuff need to be made prior to serving.

I don't know if there's any art to this, but I just made homemade egg noodles. I'm making chicken and noodles entirely from scratch, because it sounded awesome on a cold winter day. Although egg noodles are ridiculously easy to make, this is only my second time doing it. I'm anxious to see how the noodles turn out.

I love cooking for folk.
I'm not a very fancy cook. And I seldom follow a recipe to the T.

I pride myself on a lot of full (over-stuffed, even ) bellies. biggrin

My specialty would probably be Puerto Rican dishes, but I do a lot of other stuff (and make up stuff as I go too lol)
