I actually cried a little when I saw this picture... I miss German breakfasts SOOO much!!!

and that Turkish breakfast sounds AWESOME!!

MAHLZEIT!

But there must be at least a dozen German bakeries and butchers in the Bay Area. Maybe you won´t be able to find some decent coffee thought. German roast tastes great.....especially the few remaining family owned coffee companies here in my town make some excellent coffee. If I should ever visit the Bay Area in the near future I´ll definitely bring you some stuff from Germany. Too bad that they confiscate things like sausages etc.

The jist of it...

Breakfast:

High fibre, high protein cereal with 1/2 cup of skim or 1% milk

or

Low-fat cottage cheese with tomatoes, chives, and olives with a slice of toast

Snack:

fruit, celery or carrot sticks, or low fat yogurt

Lunch:

A large salad with 5 oz of protein

Tea

Fruit

Snack:

low fat cheese with an apple (I play it up everyday)

Supper:

1/2 the plate with vegetables

1/2 cup of brown rice or other starch

5 oz of protein (depends)

Drinks in between:

Tea (decaf)

1 cup of coffee (per day, cutting down on the caffeine. SO HARD! bawl lol )

water

1 soda a day (optional)

I do indulge in pastas (but I usually make the whole grain kind)

I love chocolate (make sure it's the dark kind, so you throw in the anti-oxidants) and other candy( if I feel like eating candy, I substitute fruit for candy)

And as far as outside food goes...I only eat KFC twice a year....

Yeah, I regulate my eating real tight. lol

Breakfast is a yogurt or a piece of fruit.

Lunch is Lean Cuisine or a low sodium turkey sandwich with 2% cheese on whole grain white bread.

Dinner is soup or a salad most days.

I don't do soda or juice, just water.

Candy and other sweets are out also and I don't eat after 7 anymore.

I'm vegan. So I don't eat any meat or dairy products, or honey. I've been vegan for about 18 months and I'm the healthiest and happiest I've ever been.

I was vegetarian for 5 years before I became vegan, but I found that dairy consumption was making me lethargic and making me gain weight. And I was never really a big fan of dairy to begin with, so I cut it out. It was actually way easier of a switch then I thought it would be.

I tend to eat a lot of beans, legumes, obviously all kinds of vegetables and fruits, soy based products, tofu. I'm happy to be half Punjabi because so much delicious Indian food is already vegan. I like making mexican style food at home as well, like making wraps with refried beans, guacamole, peppers, jalapenos, olives, etc. Rice is always good too. Love me some rice and beans biggrin

I drink mostly water and fruit juice. I do have a minor caffeine addiction that I'm trying to curb lol.

Why do you want to cut down on the caffeine? Is it causing you health problems? I cut down on it, too, but I guess I don´t ever really want to cut it down completely.

I have always been a very healthy eater but never limited how much I took in, which made it hard to lose weight. Now I know better and limit myself, what I eat in a day goes something like this,

Breakfast: coffee, egg whites, srambled with spinach and ham, cooked in olive oil

Lunch: chicken breast with some brown rice

Dinner: oven baked salmon with some veggies

I use no salt herbs and spices to give my proteins a better taste

I snack on different foods such as, hummus, whole grain crackers, cheese, veggies and fruits

If I could though, I'd eat everything in sight lol

Does yoghurt make you lethargic, too? I´m asking because, as far as I know, yoghurt contains very little lactose and it is kind of fermented. I want to try a vegan diet but I think life without yoghurt or feta cheese is almost impossible for me. And eating legumes as a main protein source is a tad too boring and also not really healthy for me ( just talking from personal experience here). Have you noticed any drastic muscle loss, or just fat loss?

Tofu is not really good for men, I used to eat tons of it when I was a vegetarian but now I´m a bit careful when it comes to soy products. Too much estrogen.

By the way, I love Indian food but good Indian food is not that easy to find around here.

I was constantly hungry when I was a vegetarian and always had a huge craving for carbs and even put on some weight because of that. I´m still pondering whether I should become a vegetarian again though....but the psychological and social pressure is strong.

It did for me, yes. Plus, for me the reasons for becoming vegan were equal parts health and moral. Put it this way.... there are a few things I learned about all dairy products that make me feel physically sick at the thought of eating them. It's not something I tend to go into detail about unless someone specifically asks, because it's too easy to come across as being judgmental towards other people's choices.... and that's something I'm wary of. But if you're really interested, I can certainly recommend a couple of things online that are worth reading, and a few books, too.

For what it's worth - there are a wide range of excellent dairy-free yoghurts and cheeses on the market. Of course, that dependent on where you live. I'm a little bit limited on choice here in England, but when I'm in Portland, OR (my second home and soon to be my first once I get my greencard), it's something of a "vegan mecca" and there's more choices than I can even comprehend!

Legumes are just one source of protein. Nuts are good too, but the best sources of protein are green leafy vegetables. Things like Spinach, Sprouts, Kale, Brocolli, Cucumber, Artichokes. I try to sprinkle Flax and Hemp seeds on Salads too, as they are another good source.

I haven't lost any muscle mass. Just fat.

Actually, the estrogen thing is largely a myth. Many of those studies have been inconclusive, and most of the ones that did have evidence were based on developing bodies, ie children under the age of 10. What you'll also find, when you dig a little deeper, is that a GREAT deal of these "scare stories" are spread by lobbyists for the meat and dairy industries. Soy has been an integral part of diets of many different cultures all around the world, for centuries. But only when it starts eating into the profits of the meat and dairy industries, will you see the type of "studies" pop up. You'll also find there's a great deal of estrogen in most drinking water, as the cleansing process doesn't filter it out. It's nothing to be concerned about. It's EXTREMELY unlikely that a male body would ever have too much estrogen, and especially from a soy based diet. Our bodies are smart, and can produce more testosterone to balance it out, if needs be.

Good Indian food is hard to find? Where do you live? I thought my people were everywhere with our restaurants and corner shops... lol lol If you enjoy cooking though, a few basic recipes will go a long way. My wife is white, and had never attempted to cook Indian food before meeting me. Now she does a great job!

As for being constantly hungry, that is a sign of an imbalanced diet in all likelihood.... and people can have imbalanced diets regardless of whether they eat meat, dairy, or are vegan. A balanced diet is key to good wellbeing and good health regardless of what you choose to eat, or not eat.

Well, if you decide to pursue vegetarianism or veganism, let me know.

Breakfast:Either Turkish style if I´m not in a hurry or German style when I´m in a hurry.

Turkish=> black tea, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, black olives, marinated green olives, lots of olive oil sprinkled with paprika flakes, sometimes a boiled egg, sometimes sucuk, pita bread or simit(some kind of a bagel), sometimes tahin with pekmez, honey, and maybe one or two cups of strong Turkish coffee later ( NOT with the breakfast but as a chaser) wink

[img:$uid]http://www.tampaturkish.org/wp-content/gallery/kahvalti/kahvalti.jpg[/img:$uid]

German style is usually a cup of good, strong German coffee, rolls or toast with jam, cheese, smoked chicken breast, chocolate spread and a boiled egg. But I also love to add some peanut butter.

[img:$uid]http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1406/1139638391_111a74d81d.jpg[/img:$uid]

In general, I usually eat a lot of vegetables, homemade soups, lots of tangerines, oranges, pomegrenates, apples, plain yoghurt, peanuts, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, lots of olive oil, pasta in moderate amounts, lots of organic oatmeal, oat muesli without wheat, lots of cottage cheese, fish, squid, mussels, shrimps, sometimes a protein shake, and always a whey protein shake right after a workout. I also like avocados, sun dried tomatoes and tons of black tea and coffee but also rose hips tea or hot cocoa (organic, without added sugar....I add only a little bit of sugar to it).

I used to be a vegetarian from 1999-2004 and I´m thinking about going back to that lifestyle again or at least drastically reduce my meat consumption ( I rarely eat it anyway).

Oh, and I love sweet potatoes, broccoli, spinach and bulgur with yoghurt. And salads.

That looks sooo good! drool

For me: sandwiches, ice-cream, cookies, doughnuts, fruit snacks, coke and tea is what my diet is comprised of. Gotta be a teen!

It's all over the place.

Breakfast:

Most days I just have coffee for breakfast.
Most times I'm just not hungry untill brunch/lunchtime. Some days I wake up ravenous.

Most of the time I don't like breakfast foods so I'll have like tuna with mayo (lots of it boxed) and saltines (even if morning).

Lunch:

A can of soup or tuna (sometimes leftovers)

Dinner:

Usually some sort of chicken/ground turkey/meat (not too often) with salad and a side (rice or veggie)

I will snack like a crazed MF all through the night some nights. redface

I've adopted the habit of making most of my foods plants. Lots of grains and legumes, some fruits and vegetables. I eat meat and dairy just not as my primary food source. I'm trying to get in the habit of eating the fungi, mushrooms, but I'm having difficulty with that I like them sometimes, but not regularly. I try to keep in mind to eat real whole foods, little to no processed food, but that can be difficult due to the time in shopping for and preparing especially before food goes bad, so I fall back on what's easiest. A vicious cycle but I've noticed my taste buds have changed and I really don't like a lot processed foods. When you get a taste for grass feed beef you notice the difference.

Breakfast is easy though, I eat a plain yogurt with fruit and raw sugar, a hot cereal of rolled wheat or barley (oats don't agree with me), with dried cranberries and almonds

Breakfast is usually muesli with fruit and apple sauce and lowfat milk or porridge with thickened cream and honey, then tea and toast usually with vegemite or peanut butter.

Mid morning I make a smoothie with banana, lowfat milk, whey protein, dates, apricot, whatever random fruit I have, frozen berries and supergreens powder.

Lunch could be an omelette with ham or bacon or zucchini or a sandwich with a tea.

Afternoon I'll have a tea or if I have a coffee it'll be in the afternoon, usually with a small cake or biscuits.

Dinner is usually protein plus carb plus veges. I rarely eat fried food or fast food anymore.

I rarely have dessert at night. I find dairy makes me heavy the next morning.

I take a green tea or roiboos tea to bed.

Although I'm pretty happy with my weight I want to lean out a bit more so it's just a matter of eliminating a few things like cream and cake and doing more cardio.

ok if you are on a strict diet - close your eyes ----

breakfast - 2 fried eggs, toast, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon and 3 sausages cup of strong tea with 2 sugars

Brunch - 2 packets of crisps, coffee with 2 sugars

Dinner - 2 large pork chops, roast potatoes, mixed vegetables, gravey - dessert is 2 cream slices

Tea - 2 quarter pound burgers topped with fried egg and melted cheese in 2 big slices of bread.

Evening snack - tin of tomato soup with 2 bread rolls

The above has loads of cups of coffee and tea and little snacks.

This is my husband's diet - he weighs 9 and a half stone - cannot put any weight on and needs to eat like this to keep his weight on or he losses pounds in days.

He had his blood pressure and colesterol tested and all perfectly ok - in fact aboslutely perfect!

Not fair is it!!!!! confused

breakfast - 2 fried eggs, toast, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon and 3 sausages cup of strong tea with 2 sugars

Not fair is it!!!!! confused

Have they checked his thyroid? hmmm Maybe it is overactive?
