Some of her lines were great. And when used sparingly she was a very useful character. What I said above about Buffy's interaction with single characters was no different with her "Mom!". lol But when she had a larger role she usually got on my nerves right quick. It was something about the voice of the actress.

I can see what you mean. It actually took me the 2nd or 3rd time going through Buffy to really like Tara. I mean i liked her, but yes the voice and attitude you have to get used to and by the time season 6 came around it was quite sad she died a rather shitty death. Especially cause she was actually one of the most innocent characters on the show

My friends and I went as Buffy, Willow, Xander and Spike a few years back for Halloween. I was evil Willow. It was one of my favorite Halloween costumes, ever. I even got the all-black contacts to make my eyes all scary. And my friend ordered a Sunnydale High t shirt to wear as Xander. It was really perfect.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but season 6 is by far my favorite and the whole initiative/Riley/Adam story line is my least favorite. There are some really good standalone episodes in season 4 (Hush, Superstar, I even love Beer Bad! lol), but the rest is just crap. Dawn is the most annoying character ever to grace a tv screen and she was meant to be, so it succeeded, I guess. To this day, I can't stand that actress. I would even fast forward through the dvd extras if she was being interviewed. I really, really can't stand her.

I can never be jaded about Once More With Feeling. Every time I watch it I am still astounded at how well it's carried out, how every song fits perfectly, how well it moves the story line along, the big reveal and the subsequent drama of Spike stopping Buffy's suicide attempt in front of everyone...

And the writing is probably the best to ever be on TV. I suppose that's saying a lot, but I don't care. I said it. heh.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I loooooooooooove those episodes. Watching Willow go from mousey, nerdy, miss goody two-shoes to the most powerful woman in the world (who happens to be an evil junkie and needs to learn to deal with it) is one of the greatest things about Buffy. And Xander saving the world (with his love, his greatest gift) is one of my favorite moments of the series.

Speaking on Willows journey, Cordelia's journey (as continued in Angel) became another of my favorite story arcs in the whole Whedon universe.

Buffy's Mom was suppose to be annoying as hell, that was the whole teenage angle, however I think that the actress did a wonderful job of it.

Which make me remember The Body probably the darkest gem of the whole series when it comes to the depth of emotions. That episode of such loss still makes me quiver.

Yes!

It was on last week (or the week before?) and I got upset all over again like it was the first time I saw it.

I imagined what it would feel like to walk in on my parent like that. sad

I read through the rest of the thread...

Here are my twocents about some of the characters.

Joyce: In the episodes where she was the focus, she was kind of "meh".

Like the one with John Ritter- "Ted". rolleyes Or when she and Giles hooked up in the band candy episode. I REALLY hated the one where she was under the spell of Hansel & Gretel- the witchhunt episode.

Dawn: Didn't like that whole thing. I always felt like they just wanted to give Michelle Trachtenberg a major role. I always felt like belonged on a Disney show.

Anya: I liked her. She was so blunt, I looked forward to her next comment. She broke my heart, though, when she couldn't understand how to mourn Joyce's death. sad

Tara: I'm not sure... rewatching the reruns made me like her more than I originally did.

Riley: What a waste... Annoying.

I liked the Mayor. His "I'm an evil germphobe patriarch" always cracked me up. lol

Warren, Jonathan & Andrew: Funny as hell. They took "nerdom" to a whole new level! lol

(Loved that episode where Jonathan was the coolest guy in the world!)

Harmony: Duh. rolleyes

The only funny thing about her was when she went to LA to see Cordelia on "Angel"- she was trying to bite her, but Cordy thought she was gay trying to come on to her. lol

Did anyone notice that some characters has small parts earlier in the series? Andrew was one of Harmony's minions? And Anya's friend was a student/extra earlier on.

I forgot Giles! doh! (Thanks, Carrie!)

I really liked him. nod I thought it was awesome how he was all mild-mannered, but had this bad-ass side: "Ripper".

(Plus I was really impressed with his hook up in "Hush". wink)

And I love what they did with Harmony. As they kept bringing her back they played her so well. lol

I really didn't mind Joyce. I guess I don't understand what was so annoying about her.

OOH. Another great moment - when Willow's about to kill everybody and Giles walks back in the door and knocks her on her ass! Or, ya know, however that goes. I heart Giles. mushy

Really, the only parts I really can't stand are Dawn the character (though the storyline and how she was introduced was incredibly clever, etc.), Riley and the whole inititive thing. Everything else has it's place or I downright love it.

Speaking on Willows journey, Cordelia's journey (as continued in Angel) became another of my favorite story arcs in the whole Whedon universe.

OK, so... I'm still trying to wrap my head around how disappointing the end of Angel was (especially since I stayed up until 3:30 to finish watching it lol ). Buuuuut...

TOTALLY agree with you regarding Cordy and I think the way they wrote her off the show sucks troll balls. I have no idea if it was her choice, something she did, or just something the writers/producers decided, but it was wrong. Her arch from her first appearance on Buffy to her last few on Angel was great. Great writing and much better (subtle) acting than I would have first given her credit for.

The end of Angel, for obvious reasons, feels rushed. But it also felt a bit confused and unsure of itself (nothing new for this series, imo). I hate what they did to Fred. Maybe it would have been better if there was a 6th season. But as it stands, I hate it. Also think Wesleys "death" lost some weight because of the fact that the series ended five minutes later with no resolution (he's not actually "dead", btw). Didn't like the return of Connor - I was fine with him being gone. Not sure how I feel about Lorne doing murder. I mean, he is a demon and it was a heavy scene, but it felt wrong. I also wanted Angel to stake Harmony on her way out. lol Lastly, the actual END of the show... bah! BS! confused

On to Buffy!

Soooo glad other people dislike Riley and The Initiative! nod

I think it's great that there's different characters we love, like, dislike and loathe. lol I absolutely understand the hatred for the Dawn character (although as I mentioned, I liked that character a lot by the end), but I don't completely share it. And Michelle Trachtenberg doesn't bother me in the least. Joyce just bugs me - it's involuntary. Can't help it. As soon as I hear her voice I'm like, "gah!"

Regarding Willow, let me be clear that I LOVE the character and I LOVE Alyson Hannigan (whose real name I ALWAYS get wrong). I even love a lot of the Dark Willow stuff. I also love her relationship with Xander - it's one of my favorite parts of the show. But those last two eps of season six - they didn't work for me. I remember part of it being as simple as there was too much sunshine and the monolith thing looking cheap. lol Part of it was the dialogue she had to read, not necessarily Hannigan's performance. But part of it was her performance, too. And for whatever reason (maybe just the length of time it took), I didn't buy what Xander did at the end being enough to stop her.

I did love Giles in that episode and pretty much every other one he was in. Another great character. I disliked his leaving (being written off of) the show, too. I understand he's STILL willing to work on anything relating to that part.

Yaaaaay Anya love! Definitely one of favorite characters.

I think it rivals the very best ever on tv. And I know it's REALLY close to being my personal favorite if it's not already there (even with me being a ginormous Trek geek). But there's been some great stuff on TV over the years, so I think it would be hard to quantify what is actually "the best ever".

As for Angel i am torn. I thought season 1 had some great episodes like the premiere, I remember you when buffy come's, Hero when Doyle died

The 2 parter with Faith & The finale

Season 2, did have some misses. but for the most part the Darla storyline was fantastic and one of my favorites in the Whedon verse.

3 Was just epic, great arc from beginning to end

4 Is my favorite... i might also mention. That Angel season 4 is my favorite season of T.V in the Whedon-Verse boxed just my opinion

5 First time watching it i felt ripped off. It was obviously building to something big, then WB cancelled it and it kind of had to wrap up quickly i felt!, And the ending left me angry

But on a 2nd viewing, i actually enjoyed season 5... and can even accept it as a fine ending to the show.

I definitely feel let down by season five. It was a bit off a lot of the time. Like they couldn't figure out exactly what to do next.

The series as a whole, I never got used to them working for Wolfram & Hart. I loved the series at the beginning when they were poor, private detectives, working to kill baddies and save people through the visions. Still don't understand why they killed off Doyle, either. Then, after a bit of time, I got used to them being in the hotel and having more resources. But I never, EVER got used to the idea that they were working for/with Wolfram & Hart. It just doesn't make any sense. There was some great episodes, great archs and great storytelling in later seasons, but as I already mentioned I never liked adult Connor and I think they wasted nearly an entire season on Jasmine. And on a whole, I would have preferred that they kept it small and dirty like it was in seasons one and two.

Conner is a little shit. Between him & Dawn it was hard to not want them to bite the dust at times. I must disagree about season 4 although the Jasmine storyline could have gone longer, and for such an incredibly powerful thing. Her death was very lame, i loved the entire arch of season 4 dark, full of revenge, anger, heartbreak, betrayer, untrust. I just loved the darkness of it all and the storytelling plus we got ot see everyone get major bloodied up and bruised this season. Everyone stepped up as a character.

Season 5 for me after my 3rd viewing i enjoyed it... i hated it first time around second was better, I still feel like it was going for a much bigger storyline though before it got cancelled...
