My guinea pig Camilla passed away

Hello orgers...

My guinea pig, Camilla, passed away last night. She was seven years old and died suddenly, although she was very calm and peaceful until the end (I suspect she had a stroke, which is fairly common in older piggies). I got to be with her in her final hours, petting her and keeping her comfortable.

I know she was only a guinea pig, but she really ment a lot to me, she was one of my first pets, and my first pet to pass away. Thank goodness I still have her healthy cagemate Charles to keep me company.

I'm thankful at least, that she seemed to go without pain, and I can say that she lived one of the best lives possible as a guinea pig (I resuced her when she was eight months old).

Anyway, just thought I share... for my closure sake anyway.

I had one and loved him so much. He died in 2002 and I cried like a baby so don't worry if others only feel it's just a guinea pig. When I petted him through his long hair, he always purred like a cat, stretched his legs backwards and laid on my lap like a satisfied lazy sausage. He got ill and I patched him up a year long and sometimes think I should never have done that. The veterinary didn't charge me anymore in the end, so many times I was there. They're supercute and vivid. Hope you feel better in time hug

My friend is babysitting some guinea pigs at the moment, she just asked me if I knew about whether they can drop dead of fright - she has been tip-toeing around them. I've not heard that they were particularly fragile like that, but then I know nothing about them! Is it true? confuse

yep, she loved her dogs to death and we talked about the immense love people have for their pets but many people crossed that line, she found lipstick everywhere (and these are female owner, with men you can't even see it).

they make some sort of "broop-ing" sound when they're afraid. Mine was always alone through the day so he was afraid of sounds and gestures so I was always quiet with him but when he stayed over at my husband's family during the holidays (3 kids) he got rid of being afraid very fast.

Some guineas might be like that... mine were pretty shy when I adopted them, but then I started playing music around them (fairly quietly of course) and they loved it... they would start popcorning to the beat! It was really quite cute smile
