Tyler Perry gives back to community again

Tyler Perry is fighting fire with compassion.

The movie mogul, 41, is reaching out to an 88-year-old great-grandmother of seven, who lost everything when her house in Coweta County -- just southwest of Atlanta -- burned to the ground, reports Atlanta's WSB-TV.

The Atlanta-based filmmaker pledged to rent a house for Rosa Lee Ransby and her 4-year-old great-granddaughter for one year. Perry will also pay the utility bills, buy her furniture and build her a new home on the burned property.

The rental house is just doors down from Ransby's house -- her home of 40 years, from which she escaped with her great-granddaughter on Tuesday when it caught on fire.

Coweta County firefighters began collecting donations, and Ransby was in her temporary new home on Thursday, just 48 hours after the fire.

"It's made my Christmas," Coweta Fire Chief Todd Moore says. "I've been doing this a long time -- seen a lot of bad things come and go -- but this is special."

Yep.

He also in the past took a bunch of Day Care kids to Disneyland after they were discriminated against at a pool club...yet..there are cartoons and people still putting him to shame. But hey when you are doing good, somebody has to hate you...

Forget a dinky old pool — Tyler Perry is taking 60 campers from a day camp, who were turned away from a suburban swim club, to Disney World. The entertainment mogul is paying for all 65 kids from Creative Steps Inc. camp in Philadelphia down to Florida to see Mickey Mouse and the gang. The black and Hispanic children who attend were in the middle of a controversy when the Valley Club in Huntingdon Valley, Penn., wouldn’t let them swim there, a move some called racist. The club says they were worried about safety and that not all the kids knew how to swim.

Mind you, I still am not a fan of his smile ...because I think he's an awful writer/director.

I do think he's a good guy, though, and means to do well by people.

rolleyes When has anyone "dissed" him for doing something good or charitable for his community? Discussing his lack of skill or talent as a writer/director when he releases a new movie is a valid argument. What he did here is a good thing, but it don't make him a good director. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, he can be a wonderful person at heart who can't write or direct a movie or be an Oscar nominee several times over and run off to a foreign land to avoid going to jail in the U.S.

We never said he wasn't a good guy. Just that he wrote the same movie over and over. lol

I'm glad to hear he did this.

no no no! Not everyone! hmph!

I happen to like, admire, respect and appreciate Tyler Perry. Unless and until there comes such a time that he...himself...does something that causes me to change that perspective. I will continue to do so. nod

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't remember anyone ever really talking bad about his character, I've just heard complaints about his work (mostly his writing and acting abilities).

I've seen his character questioned on here. Most of the bad talk of his character has been critism on him coming out (or not) and making movies that cater to bible thumpin folk as a suspected gay man (or in general). Not that any of that has to do with what is being discussed on this thread.

Yep.

I'm sure he's a nice guy too, from his interviews alone you can tell that,,,,,,,but Nicki Minaj is also cool in interviews and I'd rather scratch on an old metal plate right after I clip my nails than to listen to her music.

I don't know why there's so much stake on somebody's attitude/personality when the only thing you'll get from them is their WORK not their visit to your house. 3/4 people in this thread wouldn't spit on Prince 1 foot 1/2's ass if he was on fire for the lawsuit he filed on that mother who posted her little girl's youtube video and not to mention the "cease and desist" letter he slipped on this VERY site among many many many other things,,,,,yet here we all are.
