Ordinary People - the movie

30 years later this movie still resonates its particular reality, but with different instruments today.

I never thought I would have any insight into Mary Tyler Moore's character.

Time will reveal. If I had understood this 30 years ago...

Harlepolis

One of my fave movies, I love moments where an artist shows a side of them thats the counter image of what the public perceive them to be.

Timothy Hutton carried the movie though IMO, its so eerie & heart wrenching to watch his performance.

I wish this thread gets moved to GD in order to generate more discussions about this film.

This movie has been airing on cable recently. I haven't watched it and maybe because it's so gut wrenching I've avoided it. I recall Ms. Moore in an interview saying she was able to relate to the character Beth because she had been emotionally remote with her own son. Ms. Moore thought her emotional reserve was one of the reasons why her son had a troubled life and why he committed suicide.

that's really interesting. she played the role of beth perfectly. donald sutherland was very good, and I feel that judd nelson deserves praise. in summation, it was well casted. It was directed by robert redford, if i'm not mistaken.

I took my long time girlfriend to see it, and at the time I came to realize that she was alot like beth. we broke up not long after that. true story.
