giving and recieving.... yeah!! i got you!! you should be ashamed that you thought this was gonna be a inappropriate thread... come on admit it... lol (yeah the thread title put my mind in the gutter too)
anyway with christmas around the corner... i figured i would ask you all..
do you enjoy giving presents or recieving presents?
do you get more joy seeing others open there presents and the thought you put into them?
or do you get excited by what you see under the tree adressed to you?
for me i could careless if anyone buys me anything..
i get so much joy seeing everybody open the gifts from me.. i really try to get creative with gifts this time of year... and the feeling is so rewarding to see the vibrant smiles and feel the closeness and the love of the family in the room when we are gathered around the christmas tree...
just being with the family is the best gift ever to me...
anyway what will it be are you a giver or reciever?
do you put a lot of thought into your gifts? or do you just throw something together?

I always put thought into gifts. I always ask the person what he or she would like best and then I will search the ends of the earth to get it if I can afford it.

I’m a bit of both. I enjoy receiving gifts very much. I like giving gifts, but I worry I’m not a very good gift giver. I never know exactly what to get. Sometimes I get it just right and it’s a really good feeling.
I do loooooooove wrapping gifts, though. I love picking out paper and ribbons and using different colors and attaching fun things to the outside and such. |

Oh I LOVE wrapping and decorating gifts too

I don't like the thought of giving and receiving gifts, just because it's "christmas", with nobody actually knowing what that day is all about. Plus, I'm not very comfortable receiving gifts overall, so I try to avoid it as much as I can. I never buy anyone anything for christmas and I expect the others not to buy me any presents either.
I may spend time with my family, because the occasion is quite convenient for it, but no more than that.
If I see something that I would like to give to someone I love, I simply buy it and give it to them, without the need for a special occasion that would force me to do so. I can show my love and appreciation without the proof of material commodities. [Edited 12/14/10 13:38pm]

I'm a better giver.
Aside from clothes and art , I hate amassing stuff. (Not because I'm noble or something, but because I'm anal retentive.
On the other hand, I also don't give much in the way of presents. (Not because I'm noble, but because I'm cheap. [Edited 12/14/10 12:12pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I JUST LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE - WONDERFULLY REFRESHING "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"
Be proud of who you are not what they want you to be...

I feel very uncomfortable about receiving gifts. I never know how much joy or thankfulness I should display to the giver. I either come off as ungrateful, or all gushing.
Giving on the other hand, I love. Not so much choosing the right gift, just the act of giving. I really like that feeling when you give, feels so good inside. If I could buy that feeling in a pill I would be happy.

I don't think I am very good at choosing gifts, I usually find out by snooping and asking around what the person really wants, and then buy that. I finish all my christmas shopping by end of November and coast through December being smug about it
I also make sure I let as many people know as possible about what I want, to avoid my bitter disappointment
I enjoy the accomplishment of ticking the list and feeling I'm on top of it all, but the giving/receiving part of Christmas is always somewhat of a fizzer
I have bought a surprise this year for the master, so I am excited for him to open it, but again, if he turns out anything like his dad and says "what did you get me THIS for?" I will probably cry

Receiving is okay cuz I usually don't care what I get....I just like the wrapping paper and the receipt so I can return it!
Buying gifts for others is more fun. I get excited envisioning them opening the gift and being surprised. Usually, I aim for the element of surprise. I'd rather not give you what you want but rather what you need or what you didn't even expect. With adults this is usually satisfied with a plane ticket somewhere, a gift card to a spa or tix to a sporting event. Kids are easier to please but again I'd rather not get them the usual stuff. For instance my friends' kids always get toys from their relatives. Children have short attention spans and the toys they love today will bore them next week and get torn up the week after that. I've gotten them tickets to an amusement park which they can't even use until Spring and bikes which will take them some time to learn to ride. I like a gift that's long lasting and/or will put enthusiasm, anticipation and excitement in someone.

do you enjoy giving presents or recieving presents? Both (as long as the ones I receive are good!
do you get more joy seeing others open there presents and the thought you put into them? or do you get excited by what you see under the tree adressed to you? Probably the former.
do you put a lot of thought into your gifts? Yes!

Yeah.
Either way, giving. The people that usually get me gifts don't know my taste very well. I'm good at the gift thing if I know the person.

I like to give gifts. Giving is the best part for me. I always try to put al lot of thought into the gifts I give but I always feel slightly anxious that people are gonna hate what I got them. Most of the time I please. I think.
Of course I love to receive gifts as well. I don't care how expensive they are... just that a little bit of thought has gone into them.

Obviously at the end of christmas day i sit down and tally up the value of what I have received against what I gave out and see if I made a profit What you don't remember never happened

I love giving gifts, I love shopping in general... I love to find hard to find items and give them to people that those items "look" like.
I especially love shopping for my best friend and her kids... they are awesome to shop for. I always tend to hit the mark. My sister is hard to shop for and her kids... she is hard to shop for, people like her are always tricky.
I wish I had more money... I would hook up my loved ones in unusual ways. Like small luxury items they would never get themselves.
Funny enough, items like high end hairbrushes, and implemenets for grooming are always appreciated by everyone I know. They are usually like "Oh good, glad I don't have to go to the store to buy one. Thanks! "

I love giving gifts, too, but I always seem to end up trying to please ungrateful muhfuggas. I had this one close friend girl a few years back. We were very close, almost like sisters. I would always listen to her to get ideas about what she wanted or liked. For instance, in the summer she was talking about how she wanted this particular planter she had seen in Costco but didn't want to spend the money for it. I made note and went back and bought it for her and saved it to give to her for Christmas. That Christmas I gave it to her. She looked at it, tossed it aside and said, "Humph, thanks." Another time I gave her a beautiful serving platter because she was hosting a "tea party" and needed something to put the canapes on. Bitch didn't even use it! Two years ago I gave up. I stopped all cards and gifts because I just felt like a fool trying to please someone who has trouble expressing gratitue or lacks that common decency.
My crazy next door neighbor threw away every single item I had ever given her. When she would catch the ass about something she thought I did or didn't do, she would make a point of putting the item out on the sidewalk on trash day.
