Dude is cool no doubt. But hey - he's a Texan!

I sold a muscle car a few years ago and the guy came to my house to pay for it. I never thought he'd bring cash but he did - $72,000 in cash.

All I could think of was, "He's going to pay me, drive the car around the block, then come back and hit me over the head and take the cash". So I hid it quickly. But he was a good guy, never came back to rob me.

And when I took the $72K to the bank the next day and deposited it, they didn't even make me fill out one of those forms! I guess the told the IRS, but I never had to do anything.

omfg Damn, I woulda been nervous as hell with that kinda cash on me.

In my work, I often cash my clients' checks at their banks to make sure I get my money. I be nervous walking around with $10k I would be positively frightened with $72k. shake

Hubby is a total watch whore, I don't get it at all. In reality is a watch (other than one with high precious metal content) really worth upwards of $5k?

If you are looking for a high quality time piece though he swears by Breitling. Apparently they are chronometers of the highest order. (so he says)

So much so that he has for everyday use yawn

[img:$uid]http://www.breitlingblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/colt.jpg[/img:$uid]

Plus his dress one

[img:$uid]http://blogs.motortrend.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/5/files/function-and-form-automotive-watches/7217988.jpeg[/img:$uid]

Now he is pining over this but he is gonna have to sell one of the others...no man can wear 3 watches!

I think you missed my point.

A watch is a timepiece. Designed to tell the time. If all that we need is something to accurately keep time then there is no NEED to spend $5k.

If you wish for it to be a status symbol or have inherrent value, hence my comment on precious metal content, then that is different and it is not JUST a timepiece.

Ultimately if you need something to tell the time you don't need to spend 5k. If YOU have other boxes that your watch needs tick then your watch is more than a timepiece.

Rolex are a quality chronometer (swiss) manufacturer and just because you place higher worth on another manufacturer that does not make their product simply clever marketing. Swiss chronometers are world renowed as the best. Plain and simple.

To me a watch is a watch and not worth $5k, apparently hubby feels differently but he wants his watch to do more than tell time, he values it, I don't. Apparently you and he see eye to eye for once. lol

Well maybe wink

I hear u.......but no one really needs a watch at all.

Cell phones, computers, cars, and other devices all around us tell time.

The watch is so much MORE than a timepiece these days.

About five years ago, I saw a very nice looking one at a pawnshop in NY. It was going for $1,500. Before I can go in there, and offered to put some money on it, someone beat me to it neutral

That Hodinkee site is a wealth of info about watches. This story was on there.

Formula One Boss Bernie Ecclestone Attacked For Hublot - Hublot Turns Into Ad: Your Thoughts?

You may have heard that a few weeks back, Formula One head-honcho Bernie Ecclestone was brutally attacked during an attempted robbery. Among the items targeted by the thieves was Ecclestone's own Hublot Big Bang King Power. Apparently, the thieves went for the wristwatch, but the 81 year old Bernie wasn't ready to give it up without a fight.

Bernie fought back and the thieves left without the watch, but Ecclestone did suffer some serious bruises - but you already knew that, because the image of the bruised and battered F1 boss was turned into an ad within days and run in the Financial Times and International Herald Tribune over the weekend. The ad reads "See what some people will do for a Hublot".

The ad attracted sharp criticism from some, and Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver told The Watch Lounge “Of course it’s not an advertisement, but a series of 3 campaigns. It’s our mission to stand up against hatred, racism, cowardice and violence...in my opinion, we can’t make and sell quality and prestige without denouncing such wild behaviour".

So Biver is saying it's not an ad, but rather a call to arms, or more accurately, a call to disarm. What do you guys think about this particular ad; are you buying Biver's explanation that this is a campaign to end violence or is it a publicity stunt using some jarring imagery sure to capture the eyes of readers?

i think it's jujitsu

I don't get it, unless it's an investment. Where gold is involved I'm just all about the current price for 1 baht/15.2g of gold and anything made with it shouldn't be more than a fraction over the going rate, be it a ring, bracelet or necklace, whatever the design or whoever made it. That's how we do it here. Gold has a worth and that's how much jewelry made with it is, not more. Gold is many peoples' savings account here. I think I've digressed though. I couldn't ever see myself buying a Rolex, unless it were a cheap fake, but even then I don't really like how they look. Or indeed wearing a watch in general. lol

I am a big fan of the so-called "Replica" watch. A nice little loophole to try to get out of the "counterfeit" label... lol

I have a "Replica" similar to this that I got as a gift...

but some day I will graduate to a Breitling, finest watches in the world.

No, just watches, although some of them cost more than cars!
