The Kids Are Alright Wow...
I'm sorry, I know that as a gay person I should stand up and cheer but, was this the most grossly OVERRATED film of the year??? I am a HUGE Julianne Moore fan so I feel like I'm blaspheming but come on...really, it MUST be cooler than this to be lesbian. God I hope so for their pie-lovin-sake. I mean the acting was good. If anyone gets anything from this it should be Anette Benning and maybe Mark Ruffalo (his body hair was divine
My vote is still on chick from "Winter's Bone".

Winters Bone was fantastic. I felt that film long after I left the theater.

I just fell forward and accidentally licked the screen.

This was just one of those films that seems to be loved by the entire universe (critically and word of mouth) and I was SO looking forward to seeing. (Ron had no interest so now I owe him watching some shitty movie he wants to see And when you look at the whole nothing is really so terribly wrong, it's well acted, well shot etc...but it was just kind of a big helping of BLAH. I didn't get why people were going on about what a fun and funny movie this was.

The girl from Winter's Bone should win the Oscar this year, hands down, no contest. There is simply no other actress who was half as good as she was in the past year.
That said, I loved The Kids Are All Right.

The first part of your post is the only thing that is saving you because I SO KNEW you were gonna say you loved this boring-ass fest.
What was so fun about this movie? I thought it was kind of contrived and a throwback to 80's dramedy's where someone ends up getting an award just cause it's "their time".

I don't think TKAAR is an Oscar-worthy film necessarily (then again, in a world where Halle Barry and Crash get Oscars, maybe it is). Anyway, I just enjoyed it. I think some of the praise for it was overblown, no doubt. And some of it, I think, may have been heaped on simply because you don't often see things like--gasp--50something actresses being sexy on screen. But it was a nice enough film in its own way and I thought all the actors in the movie really committed to their roles and didn't hold back. So that made it very enjoyable to watch.

Did you watch this on a movie night in your new home?

That's a fair assesment. I do think the acting was very good and usually "normal" acting goes unnoticed vs. tragic or extreme kind of roles.
I just let the hype get me all excited and ended up underwhelmed.

I was a little disappointed that the movie reduced itself to that Gray's Anatomy-level of filmmaking, where you put on a poignant song and let that take the place of actual storytelling. It wasn't a perfect movie by any means.

I haven't seen it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I tend to think that you might enjoy the subtlety of Anette Benning's performance.

I loved it. I gave it 4.5 stars on this thread: http://prince.org/msg/100/342022
I loved it because it treated the lesbian couple and their family as very matter-of-factly like any other family. I also loved how the effect the infidelity had on everyone seemed very honest and heartfelt. Good acting by everyone.

the movie was very good. the acting was great. the honesty of annette benning and julianne moore was refreshing..i.e. being filmed with little or no makeup. sorry you didn't like it.

they probably saved lots of money on wardrobe

The movie was OK. The acting was very good.
I just found it boring.
All these things folk like about it are valid and definitely good and I suppose refreshing things. I noticed them in the film, I just don't think they necessarily add up to a very entertaining or even particularly moving experience.
