Not quite the whole middle east. Israelis are not allowed in Qatar so I guess they won't even be allowed to enter the 2 year qualification stage of the tournament. I am not commenting on the reason they are not allowed in Qatar nor do I have a problem with that but for FIFA to award the cup to a country that excludes one of it's own full members seems ludicrous. Unless I am mistaken and an excemption was negotiated.

Also it is illegal to be gay in Qatar and women's rights are almost non existent so I don't think they should have the cup.

For me the good thing about Qatar is it's size. The stadia will be so close that the tournament will be so concentrated and really feel like it's taken over and everyone can enjoy the atmosphere...unless they are.....Jewish....or gay...or a woman.

The Asian Games were held there back in 2006. Not counting the many stadiums that they already have for their own local championships.
