Make up help!

Since I was 21 , I have used Dermablend corrective cosmetics to cover acne and acne scars.

A while ago they changed their product. Luckily I had 2 sample containers of it. I was able to stretch it out and make it last. Now I am running out of it and my acne is getting really bad again.

I was looking online and saw that MAC has some concealer.

Has anyone here used their concealer to cover blemishes or to smooth out scars?

If not, can you recommend another product.

Thank you!

I know *exactly* how you feel. And when I run out of Dermablend I just use the product below to conceal my facial blemishes (not that I have very many!) until I can find a supply of Dermablend.

that's not very helpful now, is it? neutral

Sadly no, I have contacted them and the old stuff is no longer available. I have tried their new formula and it sucks.

I like Bobbi Brown's concealer... I usually have to buy 2-3 different shades of foundation to get the right shade since I am a very difficult shade to match.

Creme foundations have better coverage... then set with a sheer powder for oil/shine control if you have oily skin.

You need to go to the dermatologist! Makeup will only cover the discolorations but if you have bad acne (cystic) then the cosmetic won't aid in relieving you of that bumpy look. Excessive makeup is not a good look no matter the condition of your skin.

If the dermatologist visit is not in your budget then try proactiv or oatmeal based soap like Aveeno. You can also try an apple cider vinegar astringent or witch hazel to calm the skin. Are you female? Birth Control pills might help because sometimes acne is hormonal.

As for makeup:

Bobby Brown has a great concealer and Lancome has great foundation.

Mac's studio fix is alright but is tends to look masky.

I have been to over a dozen dermatologists in my time (I turn 40 next year). I was on Accutane when I was 21 for severe acute cystic acne.

I will not go back on that med now. I am older and wiser.

Right now it is hormonal & weather related. I do need to see a dr for my thyroid.

The Durmablend was great because it helped stop more break outs. Another company has bought them, I might give that cpmpany a try.

I cannot use regular OTC products because they make the problem worse.

I cannot take BC pill , too many side effects.

when u say acne, do you mean pimples?

The juice of a lemon is great for that because the acid eats the bacterias, I have done it for years.

sad I have no advice, but I sympathise with you hug

I have a facial skin condition (can't remember what it's called), which I constantly cover up with concealer. But it's really bad at the moment and it won't completely clear up unless I stop using the make-up. But it's so severe that I want to cover it up. Grrr.

Which concealer do you use?

I just found my Dermablend, another company has bought them but I am going to order it and try it.

I saw a photo of me the other day and the scars were really noticable and it was horrible.

Time to cover up the whole face again.

sigh

I think between hormones and this weather, oh and the radiators for heating dry the skin out, then going outside really confuses the skin.

No win situation!

Grrr is right!

At least you have those stunning eyes, nobody looking at your skin with those eyes!

You are more likely to look for it though. It may not be as noticeable to other people.

I've recently been using a Virgin concealer. I'll use anything as long as it's a thick consistency - like lipstick.

It seems like you have very sensitive skin and you don't want anything that will give you red blotches or dry your skin out.

What about that line (acne) that has foamy cleansers? Its supposed to be good for cystic acne.

Its called Max Clarity... its a new product.

Mach

NOT makeup ...

Though I though you might be interested anyway

for the past 1.5 months I have been using a blend of organic/extra virgin Rosehip Seed Oil and

organic/cold pressed Tamanu oil

mixed in a natural moisture lotion ( Burt's Bee ) base

It has made a incredible difference in the tone/texture/health of my very dry ( often cracking ) skin

best wishes with your search

Shanti my niece suffers from terrible acne that has left bumps and scars doctor had to put her on meds as at one point as she was suffering bad. My niece has found that using Bio oil at night and it has help reduce the scars and redness.

My younger son’s hormones have kicked in and he has used a few products but one he has found that does help him is: http://www.witchskincare.com/ he uses the face wash twice a day, the blemish stick for when they spots are hot and tight feeling. He will throttle me if he finds I’ve been writing this but he also uses witch skin concealer.

Thanks Paintedlady, I will check it out. I do have senstive skin. I have a prescription cream for the cysts when they get really bad but they make me peel like a lizard and the corrective cosmetics does not adhere to my skin properly.

Over the 20 some years I have had the acne, I have tried so many products.

Thank Mach rose

Thanks TypoQueen,I used Bio oil when I was pregnant to prevent stretch marks on my belly and thighs. It kept me from getting new stretch marks from being pregnant. I did try it on my face when my acne flared while pregnant, it seemed to make it too oily.

I will check out the product that you mentioned that your son uses. lol

Thanks guys!

Adult acne sucks... my face is better, but I still get breakouts here and there and I ALWAYS get one random cystic zit somewhere on my face or back everytime my monthly rolls around. sigh

But the redness and rawness of skin is a major issue. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I understand. hug You are beautiful... get your skin back then the make-up regimen will fall into place easily... maybe a bare mineral make-up will work best after your skin has calmed down.

Cut down on your sugar intake also... that's toughest for me, but sugars swell the skin allowing those deep pimples to set in a bit faster. Drink lots of water if you don't already do that.

nod I swear by Proactiv, it has cured my acne problem. I have sensitive and oily skin so most of the harsh acne creams, soaps and moisturizers from the average drug store actually irritate my skin. I make sure to stay away from foundation, but I've found that when I do have to use concealer, this does the trick for me. It works wonders and I also wear it on my eyelids as primer for eye shadow to eliminate the shadow from creasing after a few hours of wear:

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
