Oh yeah we have a beautiful glass pickle with crystals on it.

Didn't know it was a German custom though, I think someone found the pickle in a Christmas store and the story came in the box.

We hide it on the tree and the first child to find it gets an extra small present. This year will probably be a fight because we have a lot of kids coming to stay for Christmas.

My family has done this for as long as I can remember... celebrating part of our German ancestry... but our tree fell over last year and I'm not sure the glass pickle survived... might have to go get a new one!

Hello all... I'm half German and my wife was born and raised in Koeln (Cologne). We both have NEVER HEARD OF THIS "TRADITION".

So here's more proof...

The German Christmas Pickle

"So far I have found no historical or other evidence to indicate that the Weihnachtsgurke is a genuine Christmas custom from Germany."

that's all I have to say about this... sorry folks!

but NO ACTUAL Germans have ever heard of this!!! omg

Then there's the fact that the date that St. Niklaus shows up differs from the one reported in the "tradition".

As far as I'm concerned, the German Xmas Pickle is

I dunno.

Alls I have to offer is that my grandparents were both German and thats where I got it from.

BUT, they weren't immigrants of Germany, their parents were, as babies or very young children, I guess.

So maybe it's a Germans living in America tradition???? I dunno. shrug

Could be. I see my Italian American friends having cultural and food traditions that don't have a goody gatdam to do with native life in Italy so it's possible campfire

Exactly. My first time to Italy, I realized Mamma Mia was on the side of the hill choppin' up garlic with the checkered cloth tablecloth on a table blowing in the wind. American fiction lol

We've never used fruit or vegetable ornaments if that's what you mean by "pickles". I was looking at it like you were saying you hang an actual pickle on the tree. lol

doh!

As a "Prince fan" you should know that the correct form of answer is...

Why you wanna treat me so bad... When you know I love you'
How can you do this to me... When you know I care'
