Worst beer ever: OLDE ENGLISH 800 From the NY Daily News:
Olde English 800 tops list as the worst beer ever, per Ratebeer.com
by Lindsay Goldwert
Hear ye, hear ye. Olde English 800 has been dubbed the worst beer, ever.
Thousands of beer fans voted on the nastiest tasting brews and the malt liquor has been declared the foulest, according to data compiled by Ratebeer.com.
Critics from all over the world seemed to take pleasure in denigrating the Miller-Coors product as 'disgusting', 'horrible' and 'unfit for bums or college students.'" Others likened the taste to urine and the smell to dog feces.
"If I hated someone I would give them this beer," said one reviewer.
Reviewers could not even praise the product's signature high alcohol content. "Drink only when you are in desperate need of getting drunk and you can't find mouthwash," advised one reviewer.
Natural Ice, a malt liquor manufactured by Anheuser-Busch InBev came in second for skunkiest brew. The cheap malty booze was pronounced, "metallic," and made to get as drunk as possible as fast as possible ... little else" with "an aroma of a public restroom."
"Top choice for beer pong. Last choice for everything else," recommended one reviewer.
For those who scoff that malt liquors just can't be compared with beer, Natural Light, Milawaukee's Best and Michelob Ultra, all pale lagers, rounded out the top five of this 'Don't Drink' list.
"We provide this list in the name of beer education. We aren't picking on the fat kid as much as we're making a few big brewers accountable for their products that are more about beer hype and marketing than substance," the site advises.

Oh, lawd. That stuff was the rage back in the 80's! And it's not beer. It's malt liquor, the drink of choice of ghettrons.

That isn't beer. It's malt liquor. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Olde English is not really beer, is it?
If Eazy E were still alive, Olde English would be much more popular.

So what? The fact that those are beers doesn't change the fact that Olde English isn't. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The people have spoken. Malt liquor is comparable to beer for the sake of this poll.

Malt Liquor is a form of beer, one with high alcohol. It has enough alcohol that it can't legally be called beer in all states (they require labels of lager or ale or malt liquor), but it's beer all the same [Edited 10/20/10 12:31pm] My Legacy

Hmm, well I stand corrected, as I guess Malt Liquor is TECHNICALLY beer. However, the high alcohol content point is rather silly since I regularly drink ales that are 6-10%.
From Wiki...
Malt liquor is a North American term referring a type of beer with high alcohol content. In legal statutes, the term often includes any alcoholic beverage above or equal to 5% alcohol by volume made with malted barley. In common parlance, however, it is used for high alcohol beers made with ingredients and processes resembling those in American-style lager. Malt liquor is distinguished from other beers of high alcohol content in that the brewing process is seen by many critics as targeting high alcohol content and economy rather than quality.[citation needed] However, this label is subject to the viewpoint of the brewer, as there are indeed examples of brews containing high-quality, expensive ingredients that brewers have chosen to label as "malt liquors".

From The Straight Dope...
Beers are either "top fermented" or "bottom fermented." Porters, ales, and stouts are top fermented and malt liquor is bottom fermented, which means the wort (the resulting brew of malt, prepared cereals like corn or rice, hops and water) is fermented by yeast of the bottom fermentation type (i.e. yeast which settles to the bottom of the fermenting tanks). Top fermenting yeast does the opposite. Malt liquor is made from a wort containing a high percentage of fermentable sugars which makes it slightly sweeter and a bit spicy in flavor and also raises the alcohol content.
Again, when I drink beer it's often bottom fermented, so that is NOT a procedure exclusive to malt liquors.

Ah, OK. Malt Liquor is ONLY bottom fermented and it's sweetened to raise the alcohol content, vs being hopped to death to achieve the same result in microbrewed beers (ales, porters, stouts, etc).
Beer vs Malt Liquor You might have consumed beer and malt liquor, and might have noticed the difference in their flavor. Well, there are many more differences between beer and malt liquor. Some people even consider malt liquor as inferior to beer. The main difference one can find between malt liquor and beer is in the making and alcohol content. Beer is either top fermented or bottom fermented. On the contrary, malt liquor is only bottom fermented.
When comparing the alcohol content, malt liquor has a higher alcohol content than beer. Malt alcohol often contains corn, added sugar or other substances that increase the alcohol content. Beer contains less alcohol, normally less than five percent. The drinks that exceed this limit of 5 percent can be called malt liquor, lager or ale. Malt liquor contains a higher alcohol content of 12 percent or more.
When comparing the taste, malt liquor lacks the bitter taste that comes with beer. This is because malt liquor has been sweetened. Malt liquor also has a spicy taste when compared to beer. On the other hand, beer is milder, and has smoother flavor than malt liquor.
As said earlier, a few people consider malt liquor to be an inferior beer, as it is sold in large bottles. Malt liquor is sold in 40 ounce bottles, whereas beer is sold in 12 ounce bottles. When comparing the price between malt liquor and beer, the former one is cheaper.
Malt liquors are considered to be of a lower quality when compared to beer. Malt liquor has been known as a common alcoholic beverage of the lower classes. A person can get drunk more quickly with malt liquor than with beer. Summary:
1. Beer is either top fermented or bottom fermented. On the contrary, malt liquor is only bottom fermented.

yeah I believe bottom fermenting is the same process as Lager, so there are different processes for different types of beers My Legacy
