As an old school Garfield reader (I read a couple of the collected Garfield books before I ever read a comic book) I think it's infinitely cool that Jim Davis approves of this. 
And some of them are damn funny with Garfield removed. 
Google "Realfield". I think it is much funnier. | |

Realfield is garfield minus garfield with a random cat hanging out.
I think some of the strips used in the Realfield series would be hilarious without him.
