I've been all the way to the United States Supreme Court. We were originally the defendant, then counter-sued. We lost at trial (I will go to my grave certain the other side paid off at least one juror), but the judge threw out the verdict.
The other side appealed and lost, then appealed to the Fifth Circuit and lost, and then appealed to the Supreme Court. And got their fucking ass handed to them.
That only took 7 years and about $1 million but at least we won.

I think that's the most aggressive cursing I've ever read from you,

That's crazy. I'm sure they meant it to be helpful and informative. Like, "can I sue this person for this", or "that company for that"? But I bet you that's not what most people go there thinking.

small claims and otherwise... if I feel justice needs to be had I'll take the time to do the dance...

LOL, yeah probably. I'd like to say a lot more too, but I won't.
And in the Can-You-Believe-This? department, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs uses the jury verdict as one of his star cases in his bio!
Of course, he never mentions that the verdict was thrown completely out of court due to his crappy lawyering, and that even though they hired the former Texas Attorney General to represent them all the way to the Supreme Court, they got creamed at every turn.
Oh, and did I mention the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT was paying all THEIR legal fees? We were fighting an opponent with bottomless pockets!
No, it was not fun. But we knew we were right and stuck to our guns.
At the mediation - after the verdict was renedered but before it was to have been entered as a judgment - the mediator just couldn't believe that we wouldn't offer a "reasonable" settlement (the jury verdict was for $20 million - $40 million, no one ever really could figure it out. We offered $1 million).
The mediator was an 80-year-old retired judge, and very highly thought of by everyone. I told him, "With all due respect, the verdict was wrong". He couldn't even conceive that a jury verdict of that size was possibly given in error.
When the Supreme Court finally put those aholes to rest, a frat brother of mine that worked at the plaintiffs law firm had me to lunch. He said the whole firm was in shock and had been since the day the verdict was thrown out.
One day, years later, I took a friend to lunch at Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn. As luck would have it, we were seated next to some guys that worked at the same firm the villain in this deal had worked at (he'd left that firm about six years earlier). I asked them if they knew X, and they laughed and said, "Oh, you mean the infamous X? Of course, everyone at our firm knows what he did".
Man, I could go on for hours with stories about that case. I should've written a book.

i hear ya!
and, i told my attorney friend no. i'm not interested in litigating at all, even if it would help stop someone else from experiencing what i've been through. it's not that i'm chicken, it's just... too ugly. i'm not really mad enough anyway. just hurt

ok coward. here's how it will be. the next piece you release you better believe i'll be around, looking for the connection to someone real. we'll start our own little website, a support group for people you've messed with. this time you fucked me over, next time maybe i'll establish a pattern of your bad behavior for the record.
by the way you should pobably ask your 'friend' why she wasn't more forthcoming about my gender. your work suffers for her lack of honesty.

Litigation sure isn't fun when you are the subject of it. It has the potential to ruin you, destroy your carreer, your family, your health, even your life.
But litigating on behalf of somebody else, is a whole different ball game and can be a lot of fun. Especially when you win and your client is happy and gratefull.
There is a difference however between winning for those who deserve it and those who do not. The first can give you a better high than any drug, the latter always leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
