Is there a certain number of commas your aloud to have in a sentence?

Like how many is two many for it to be grammatically incorrect? Or is there no limit on commas in one sentence.

Ya, I could google it, but I'm not.

I think it's like the movie Inception. You can only go so deep in one sentence with comma tangent phrases before it feels like your sentence is too long.

is there a certain number of commas YOU'RE ALLOWED to have in a sentence?

The answer is, one.

If you need to use more than one, then you are creating one sentence where two should be used.

Commas are used for separation of thoughts.

"I went shopping and bought some peaches, bananas, plums, pasta, and jelly". There, multiple commas are acceptable because you're continuing one thread. ie..what you bought.

"Eats, shoots and leaves" Here, the commas is misued. "Eats shoots and leaves" is correct.

"I had time for the sauna, then went to the gym, went tanning, and did laundry" again is acceptable because it's continuing the thread of what you did.

"The causes of WWII were numerous, and many countries were affected, and people suffered."

here, there are too many commas, and there are three sentences joined as one inappropriately.

What happened to parenting?

I gave my kids a double dose of tylenol and sent them to bed hours ago.

There are an awful lot of extremely succesful authors who clearly disagree. lol And lets not even get into dashes.

I'm pretty sure i'm guilty of using too many commas. But I type things as I would say them and I put a comma in whenever I would naturally pause.

Perhaps I pause too much when I speak. Actually, I probably do. I usually have sexual images in my head that regularly interfere with my train of thought.
