A Colombian friend made it.
Coincidentally we met a Spaniard who promised to make us some "real" sangria...but alas he & his wife (our friend) went their separate ways. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

It's an Italian tradition. Some folk call em "honey balls" but I never heard Italians call it that (at least not in the NY/NJ area). Always Struffoli.
I use a recipe from an old clipping my mom used but here's one from online:

where's the "like" button for this?
We have these every year, and they do NOT last.

DAMMIT!
Now I want some Strumboli & Struffoli and wash it down with some Sangria. Hey! Hey! That sounds like a new Holiday tradition to me.

I'm definitely going to try this. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Does anyone else love this stuff?

I need to try to make that! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

No...I've never tried that before.
But you just reminded me of another "tradition" in our household.
Every year for X'mas my wife and her sister pull out this "secret" recipe and they make a batch of Puerto Rican eggnog called "coquito".
It's eggnog with plenty of Bacardi and coconut milk. There are dozens of eggs that go into it.
There's so much cholesterol in that drink that literally you need 365 days for your arteries to recover. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

we get at NYE, a drink called colo de mono aguardiente, rum, boiled milk, coffee, and anís. I've had it with and without eggs

...sounds intriguing... By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Dozens of eggs? It sounds interesting enough to try at least once, but I think all those eggs might produce a texture that'd me hurl.
This was working really well for me until I got to the... anis. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

oyster roasts not set time when we have them we just have several between thanksgiving and new years How is it you feel?

TOTALLY agree. Me and anything resembling licorice is a no go. Even the smell of it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I hate licorice, I'm sure I would've noticed perhaps the argentinian version ditched that and left it to the chilenos.

I (accidentally ) perfected a recipe last year using egg substitute. It is delicious and did not lose a bit of flavor.
COQUITO
-1 15 oz can sweetened cream of coconut (coco lopez) -1 12 oz can evaporated milk -1 12 oz can sweetened condensed milk -1 4 oz cup egg substitute (pasteurized) -1 teaspoon vanilla extract -1/2 teaspoon cinnamon -1/4 teaspoon ground cloves -1 ½ cups white rum (or to taste)
Combine all in blender at low speed until smooth and serve in small glasses. [Edited 11/9/10 20:30pm]

Ah man I love drinks with Coconut anything in them. Bookmarked.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
This is also a much simpler way to make it. The traditional method is a pain in the ass IMO.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
...OK...maybe I exaggerated just a bit...but yeah there's a sh*tload of eggs that go in it.
But come on...how do you think EGGNOG is made? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Only 4oz of "egg substitute" though? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, yeah, but "dozens" is no less than 24 eggs! I've never had eggnog quite THAT eggy.
I'm totally ignorant of coquito, so your word is gospel to me.

Ummmm...Christmas pudding is fruitcake. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Not when I make it, it won't be! It will look like the traditional English Christmas puddings without the dried fruit. I have had some here that looked like this and only had nuts in them. Yum! [img:$uid]http://www.lovelychristmas.co.uk/images/3644.jpg[/img:$uid]
