In the end, I guess that a varied, natural diet is the key, as always

The ketchup and the bun are probably very high in refined sugar and carbs and break down very easily. The lack of good restaurants in my downtown area often forces me to grab a few cheeseburgers on my way to the gym ( no fries, no cola, just two or three cheeseburgers just so I have a quick energy boost and some protein before my workout). That´s the only reason for me to ever eat something from there because the food tastes very bland but it is very easily and quickly digested. Two or three cheeseburgers equal half the amount of my daily protein need, the rest is a post-workout whey protein shake and a casein/milk/egg/whey-mix protein shake later at home and eggs and fish and cottage cheese.
They´re good for "emergency eating" before doing my workout...but most of the time, if I have the time, I rather go to a supermarket and buy a banana and some protein-heavy stuff.
There´s this Swedish scientist who did a study on Mc Donalds because he was very skeptical of Morgan Spurlock´s "Supersize Me" and the results were not as shocking as one would expect.

At a later stage of his research, he discovered that some of the participants in the study even developed more muscle mass. As I said above, Mc Donald´s can be critized ( and should be criticized) for many things and sure, the "food" is bad, but maybe not as bad as its reputation.

"After a month the students gained between 5-15% extra weight"
If you eat fast food regularly and don't exercise a lot (which you clearly do) you are going to gain weight.
