my credit card was cloned.... so I went to Kohls, bought some stuff no problem. went to home depot, no problem. went to the supermarket, card declined. I said that can't be, try the card again. declined. I used another card, and called my credit card company. They verified that I am the account holder, and asked if I was in florida yesterday charging 200 to the mango cafe, 10 to the news cafe, and 300 to walmart in kissamee. I said no, I'm in NY and haven't been to florida in a year. somewhere somehow my card was cloned. I asked how someone could use my card if I have only 2 cards on the account, and their both in my possession. I was told that somehow my number was trapped, and a magnetic strip was made and used to make a fake card, and that the cloned card was either used to buy gift cards, or used on one of those swipey things that you don't have to hand your card over to the clerk anymore.

I'm so sorry that happened! Are they going to take those charges off your account? "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

holy bleeping bleepers, batman! i feel sorry for you :$:
i've read that people can put little tracking strips in the mouths of ATMs and pay-at-the-pump places, the data is recorded and someone parked in a car nearby can see on their laptop screen your transaction details......
hope it gets straightened out what a hassle

the charges will be totally taken off my account, and I think I know which gas station they took my numbers from.

I saw a story on that thing. IIRC, there's nothing you can do about it because you can't see it in the machine when you swipe your card.
It's a major bummer. Hope they straighten your account out pronto.

I have heard this happens at a lot of home depots. That's where they clone them. Sorry. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

This has been going on here as well. Same kind of thing. Was an ATM though. Alot of people that my husband works with were victims so must have been something close to his work. We didn't have it happen this time thank goodness BUT once I opened an email that said it was from my bank. Asked me to change my online password, I thought it was suspect so didn't but just the fact that I opened the email gave the bastards access. They tried to withdrawl all of my $$. My bank caught it thank God. I then went online to change my password and the balsy F'er sent me a damn email telling me I could change my password or whatever they would still get access and TAKE all of my $!!!! LIVE4LUV

That happened to my brother, but they got him for $10,000.00! Some African guy (the bank had a picture of him) some how got a hold of my brothers full name and bank account information. He went to the bank and cashed a $10,000.00 check and the back let it go through. When my brother found out, he immediately filed a claim, and the bank had to eat that money and credit that money his account. [Edited 10/12/10 7:11am]

Not only that! While applying for jobs (imagine that!! targeting the unemployed!!) I recieved many scams. Mostly from Craigslist. Would recieve a long email in response to my resume. Usually they were all the same format. Mostly said they were very busy and would be sending me my first weeks pay of $500 then a list of duties, also requesting more personal info and stated that if the tasks were completed properly pay would increase and so on. I just can't imagine making a living destroying others lives and what they have worked hard for!! LIVE4LUV

my card got cloned the last time I was in Orlando; got back to England and my statement came in with all these additional charges.
Lucky my card company was really good, I contacted them and let them know, they cancelled my card, sent me a statement that I had to sign and then wiped the charges off my account - all that went smoothly but I was really fucked off when I originally saw my statement and realised what had happened.
Some people suck balls, they don't seem to care that they are causing distress to an actual human being.
Sorry this happened to you as well. "I know that living with u baby, was sometimes hard...but I'm willing 2 give it another try.
Cause nothing compares....nothing compares 2 u!"

It pisses you off to think that shit like that can happen. I know they had a problem last week with Aldi's getting their account hacked. Don't laugh at my funk

I drove home to NY once, and when I was leaving and in NJ getting gas my bank card wouldn't work....well the bank had shut my card down because of the "unusual charges" I'm like "thanks for the concern but bitches I'm in NJ and I can't get any gas so I can get home!!!!"
Thankfully they were able to turn my card back on....

I actually kind of appreciate that. That happened to me, but they didn't cancel my card right then. They called me and asked me if I knew about the charges. What had happened was that I hadn't used the card for about a year, so when I went shopping for clothes for my new job, it was a big spike of charges in one day and that set up a red flag.

It's happened to us, too. We used our credit card at a pre-pay gas pump here in Toronto and headed out of town. But we noticed a day later that we were still racking up transactions in Toronto. We called our bank, and they froze the account. Here's the scariest part: Apparently the thieves had the capability to OVERRIDE the freeze (or the bank simply told us that after they'd improperly applied the freeze), because after a couple hours of no activity additional transactions began to pop up!
We called the bank again, and this time they altogether closed the card, transferring our balance (sans illegit charges) to a new account with an entirely different number.
