ANYBODY SICK OF REALITY SHOWS YET?

I have a few that I'm loyal to, such as the Real Housewives franchise and that Fantasia mess, maybe a few eps of Amazing Race but otherwise....I'm sick to death of the whole reality show trend.

I just heard old ass Harry Hamlin and his younger (but still old) wife Lisa Renna are going to have a reality show. barf

Enough of the shows about folk and their quadraquintwintuplets broods

Enough of the jersey shore, jersey licious and jersey whatever

Enough of Survivor cuz one jungle looks as uninviting as the next

Enough of the Teen Mom....you're incompetent and you have a baby...we know the recipe

Enough of the Terrell and Ochocinco....we've already seen RayJ twice

Enough of the Chopped, Top Chef, Next Iron Chef...you're all cooking the same damn food in the same damn kitchen!

Alright what else did I miss? I know they're loads more out there killing off one brain cell at a time.

Does everything that's non-scripted qualify as a reality show? In that case I still like them.

A few Discovery Channel favourites:

Survivorman

Dirty Jobs

Mythbusters

Man Vs Wild

Cash Cab

I never liked the ones where they're supposed to live together and vote each other off etc though, not even when it was still "trendy". Too much catty behaviour for my taste.

There's some show called Undercover Boss. confused Really?

I confess I occasionally watch "It's Me Or The Dog", for educational purposes.

I really only like reality shows like Project Runway or Top Chef - shows in which the participants have to display a skill.

A genuine reality show (if you can call it that) has always been a good thing. I'm a sucker for the OG reality show This Old House. I also like most of what is on your list (and I have not seen the others).

But glorifying disgusting people seems to be the only purpose of the modern reality show and I have no interest in that. There is only one disgusting reality guy I liked, and he was the original...

hmmm

I watch Project Runway (or used to) and can't get enough of "Iron Chef America" & "Chopped" but to me they're more like game shows than "reality" shows.

When I think "reality" I think of "The Real World", "Survivor", "Keeping Up With The Kardashians", "Real Housewives", etc.

To me, a reality show is any show that doesn't pay writers. shrug

They've blurred the line between reality and game show with Big Brother & Survivor & Hell's Kitchen, now it's hard to tell the difference.

To me reality is where the focus is on the personaities & the situation (Real World, Jersey Shore), but those shows are not real anymore if they ever were.

It's all scripted now. The celebreality wannabe stars are told what to do. Situations are manufactured and no longer occur as they would in the "real world". People are told "have lunch with this person" or "start a fight with so and so". Bunch o' bullshit.

I stopped watching Project Runway once it was becoming easy to predict the winner.

what kills me about the "dating" shows are these women or men saying they love the intended but in reality they only staying in the crib for a few days ..yeah okay!!!

and does real and chance really need another show? lol

I been sick of the "lifestyle documentary" brand of reality shows since the 3rd season of MTV's The Real World back in the early 90s. The participants have been shallow, unsympathetic and, frankly, unbelievable for years now. confused

Now the competition or project shows -- ANTM, Project Runway, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, etc. -- I can still get with as long as we're met with fresh challenges, settings, etc. each season. Lately, though, they've been getting a bit stale as well.

Never liked them and can´t understand why TV stations waste so much time and money on them....I´d rather watch re-runs of old TV shows on repeat or whatever but I seriously don´t understand the fascination with reality shows and TV quiz channels and judge shows and talk shows.

Somebody MUST be watching them.

they are cheaper to produce than a show with writers, actors, etc

I'm not sick of them yet, because I live overseas and the only ones I've been able to see are the ones we've had threads about here on the org. I think I would be considered something like a reality tv version of a teetotaler lol In all of 5 years, I've seen the 2 love shows they show on MTV/VH1 (because they're shown on German MTV), the Housewives on Bravo(from youtube), that Jon& Kate thingy and that's it. I wonder if they'll ever just make a Reality TV channel in the states where they senda ll the reality tv shows off to die. beer

Do you remember the first REAL WORLD in New York? Wow, it's been a loooong time and way since then!

I admit I loved it at the time, and thought it was groundbreaking tv experiment with a lot of interesting personalities.

Damn there are some die hard REAL WORLD fans in this thread. eek

I've seen two: Real World Las Vegas and Real World New Orleans (the first one). I don't see the value in a bunch of college age dumb asses acting like horny 15 year olds and drinking themselves silly then fighting over who called who a bitch. There is a black version called College Hill. Equally useless.

Ok confession:

I like "The Apprentice". Better to see grown dumb asses fighting over a high paying job.

I was going to say I never watch them, but I have to admit that I usually watch the try-out shows on "American Idol". But after that, nothing for me.

I've never watched people eat bugs, or any of those wretched housewife shows, or those blowhard chopper dorks, or the dudes that drive on icy roads.

But I did watch one of the results shows for "The Biggest Loser" and it darn near moved me to tears. Those people were so proud of what they'd accomplished that there was no way not to feel good.
