I'm sorry - but it's too damn early for Christmas lights.

Look, I know how tempting it is to get them up while the weather's still warm, so you don't freeze your fingers off in November. But it's just too friggin' early.

The owners of another condo in my building have had theirs up for two weeks already - and they have them lit every night. It looks ridiculous. disbelief

Nope. I initially thought they might be, so I checked out the color very carefully. They're just plain ol' multi-colored Christmas lights. disbelief

hmm Thanksgiving weekend AT THE EARLIEST! I'm usually putting out/up the Christmas stuff the first week of December because I like to leave it up until the first week of January. A month is already pushing, imo. lol

I've got white ones up that I light all year 'round -- not every night, but when I'm feeling... I dunno... happy. boxed Looks nice and festive.

When I lived in Philly, there were these houses down by the water that were lit up year round. I love that shit. Can't even front.

I think it looks cool. Now, I personally wouldn't rock icicles, blinking multicolor lights, full house coverage and whatnot all year, but some tasteful, fairly restrained white lights in ornamental shrubs or trees looks really cool... especially on a warm night when, say, you might have friends over for a barbecue or something.

...In that way, I suppose, they're not earnestly Christmas lights.

Way too early nod

Isn't there the rule of putting decorations up 12 days before and taking htem down 12 days after? I'm a firm believer in this rule!

...Though i'm usually sck of the sight of it all by new years day and end up taking everything down.

My dad always says that you're SUPPOSED to put Christmas Lights on the worst, most grey, dreary, cold day possible. He refuses to put them up while it's warm.

I agree, waaaaay too early

we usually decorate the day after thanksgiving

I love xmas and everything that goes along with it

but anything out more than

a month or so before xmas day is ridiculous

I can understand the stores selling

holiday items/decorations early

but that doesn't mean you gotta put

them out in your yard before the ink on the receipt is dry neutral

How is it you feel?

I think that looks cool, too - especially when the lights reflect on the water. But they should be all-white lights - and no icicles or other weird shit.

Fuck in my neck of the woods, we have houses with Christmas, Halloween, AND Easter decorations still up from a few years ago.

I don't care when they put them up, its the not taking them down in a decent amount of time that irritates me.

It's going to look strange as hell on Halloween night when you see kids going up to that house trick or treating and there are Christmas lights up. It's just totally out of place.

yep, we get that here too

there's a guy that still has his inflatable decorations

in his yard from last year

just laying there, deflated, on the ground

for almost a year now

that's not only stupid

it's plain lazy

I noticed that growing up.....Christmas was being pushed earlier and earlier in the retail division. I swear...on year Macys put up some Christmas stuff in September.........

This year, during the summer, I saw an ad about shopping "early" for the holidays, and that was only a few months after the post Christmas sales. I think the stores are desperate

I gotta tell you, I can't get down with Halloween lights either tho. I think Halloween decorations are cool, but lights should be only for Xmas. hmph!
