I've seen undercover boss a few times...it's actually really good. COE types go undercover as entry level employees of their own company. They always seem genuinley changed by the experience...and it highlights the regular hardworking everyday americans who keep big companies going.

How come these employees don't recognize their boss? Are the bosses in disguise with false names or something? Seems strange that they've never seen a picture or advertisement or paid attention to the authorizing signature on their paycheck.

well, I'm not exactly sure but I think it's because it's usually like huge chain stores or businesses like 7-11 or hotels...where their pay check is most likely signed buy the owner of that particular store...not the president or CEO of the entire thing. Yes they do use false names and are somewhat in disguise as in they don't dress like they make tons of money, they dress them like regular joes and they usually have some fake story like last week it was a female and she was posing as a stay at home mom returning to the workforce and the cover for the cameras is usually like some documentary.

"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

every hour that i spend watching someone else "live their life" on TV is another hour i am spending not living my own life. eek

that being said, there are some shows like this old house, or antique roadshow, which are appealing and i do actually turn them on sometimes

This Old House with the Norm guy? If so, oh yes, used to watch that.

Most reality shows seem to be people acting like it is reality but it is so far from the reality that I know that I do not care to watch it.

nod I started watching The Real World from when it first aired until after the season of The Real World: Back to New York...after that season my attention was tapering off. Remember Heather B.? Wonder if she is still rapping. Remember the girl who had an abortion on the show? Wonder if she's still married?

As far as BET's "College Hill" goes...I tried to watch a season of it, but it was just a rediculous version of The Real World to me...a copy cat. I only watched a few episodes of the season when the show was at VSU but the whole cast turned me off with their ignorance. confused

Last I saw Heather B was still doing some underground stuff and Tammy (The girl from RW LA who had the abortion) is divorced from former NBA player Kenny Anderson.

College Hill is the black "Real World", the only season I watched a little bit was the one in the islands which was filled with drama.

She's actually going to be on the next season of The Basketball Wives as a new addition to the "cast". I think she's replacing Gloria. What's funny is that only ONE of these tricks is actually a "wife"! lol

I like Holmes on Homes...he's kinda cute! That show tells ya how doing your homework pays off BIGTIME.

I also like Clean House cuz I like Niecy....just about ANY interior design show I'm hooked because I like that stuff.

I use to like Extreme Makeover when they did all of that plastic surgery! Those transformations would blow me away.

Top Model was a favorite but lately the girls are not that attractive and if anyone is watching this season there is this girl on there who looks TOTALLY anorexic and she has these big giant Dumbo ears.....I was like seriously! HUH!??

I pretty much stick to watching VH1 Soul and HawthoRNe, besides that the state of tv just sucks....well maybe that is a good thing, cuz I find myself reading more. lol

Survivor, that's true. Fans of the show have even been saying they need to use other locations. But when they went to Africa there was Lions... I think that freaked people out a bit. lol

Thintervention. They let Workout go for this shit? I'd rather see Jackie's gym employees then all these other losers.

BGC, well I've watched occasionally only cuz I like to see a good chick fight. I've seen 3 eps of this season and these women are all kinds of trashy. The one decent chick...Kat (Cat)...she left when the Stripper dude couldn't get it up. Now that's funny..

What is Hell's Kitchen? isn't that on BBC?

That was Kitchen Nightmares, not Hell's Kitchen (Ramsey has at least four shows now, maybe more). He was on the show three years ago and he didn't kill himself because of anything Ramsey said.

NJ chef featured on TV cooking show kills himself

By BETH DeFALCO
Associated Press Writer

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey chef who three years ago described "overwhelming" personal debt when he was featured on Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" show jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River.

The body of 39-year-old Joseph Cerniglia, whose restaurant experienced a renewal since the show, was found floating in the river on Friday. The New York City medical examiner's office ruled it a suicide, agency spokeswoman Grace Burgess said.

Cerniglia owned Campania in Fair Lawn, N.J., about 25 miles west of Manhattan, which he bought in 2006. In 2007, the debt-ridden Italian restaurant was featured on Ramsay's show.

During the broadcast, Cerniglia estimated he owed purveyors about $80,000.

"I'm financially in trouble. The debt of the restaurant alone is overwhelming," he said. "My personal debt - wife, kids, mortgage - that's a lot of debt."

His wife added, "If this business fails, we will lose everything."

"Why did you become a chef-owner if you haven't a clue how to run a business?" Ramsay asks him on the show.

He criticizes the restaurant's large portions, the food quality and speed of service, and chastises Cerniglia for allowing such a childish atmosphere in the kitchen.

Jim Edwards, the culinary director at Chef Central in Paramus and a close friend of Cerniglia's for the last seven years, said he thought his friend benefited from being on Ramsay's show.

"I thought he fared well," Edwards said. "I was never at the restaurant when it wasn't packed."

He said he thought that overall, the show portrayed his friend in a favorable light.

Elisa Ung, the dining columnist for The Record since 2007, said Campania was "one of only a few places that I have returned to repeatedly after a review. The spaghetti and meatballs (equals) heaven." She wrote that when she spoke with Cerniglia earlier this year, he complained that "the show didn't reflect his passion but said it did validate his hope that his customers would accept radical change in his restaurant."

A self-taught chef, Cerniglia worked for the famed New York-based Gallagher's Steakhouse chain for a decade, where he became the executive chef.

"I didn't go to culinary school," Cerniglia says at the opening of the show. "We don't have recipes. We don't use measuring cups or spoons because I'm the best."

Edwards said he last saw Cerniglia three weeks ago and said he seemed his cheerful self. "He never gave the outward appearance that there was anything bothering him," Edwards said. "He was always very creative and upbeat. He had a very infectious smile and a way of making you feel at home.

"It's very tragic, whatever it was he couldn't overcome," Edwards said.

Edwards said his friend benefited from being on Ramsay's show and said he thought it portrayed him in a favorable light overall.

Cerniglia is the second person on a Ramsay television show to commit suicide. The other was a former contestant on Ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen" chef competition.

Calls and e-mails sent to Ramsay's publicist in London were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Cerniglia leaves behind his wife and three sons, ages 13, 11 and 9.

The family is holding a private funeral service on Wednesday for Cerniglia in Wayne, where he grew up. Relatives declined to talk about him Tuesday when reached by The Associated Press.

In his obituary, his family spoke positively about the show: "He was honored to have his restaurant featured on an episode of 'Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' and the television experience was thrilling for him."

given that most of them are scripted then I do not know how many there really are that are in fact reality shows.

Even many of the ones that are not scripted have the 'i want to be on TV factor' which causes the participants to drum up and create dram to maximize their air time.

And that is not even taking into account the various artificial elements in most of them set up as challenges or events and even the eliminations are fake.

want to impress me? make a survivor like show last until there is one person left! That is: each person has to give up! they each have to quit! No support from the show other than an occasional medical exam. If they are fit they stay.

A little known secret of survivor is they are almost always limited to what they can collect/hunt to eat. There have been shows where there are animals all over the place that are safe to yet no one even eats one! I would eat!

I'm in the "damn sick of them" club. Was sick of them when it started. I figured around '98 or '99 that Real World was scripted and so was the Osbournes and American Idol.

Hate them with a passion now. And the excuse they don't have writers isn't accurate. I'm sure they're probably ridiculous in real life but you can't tell me they make up whatever they say as they go along especially when it goes to those secret booths where they bitch about somebody or something.

"Reality shows" are sick. All of them are. And fuck the Kardashians. Illness my ass. lol

Natalie was entertaining, but I didn't like her anti-black rants and how she made fun of the other black girls in the house for having facial features that were "too black". Besides wanting to punch her in the face for that self-hating BS, she definitely had her moments.
